GTA 6 is getting a $400 collector’s set filled with Vice City-themed goodies, but it won’t include a copy of the game.
The game hasn’t even come out yet, and I’m already sick of hearing about it…
I understand the sentiment, but I think paying attention to this stuff is important. Like it or not, they are a huge part of the zeitgeist and they can set trends. This is one I’d like to not see. It’s important this shit is reported on and pushed back against, hard.
Pushed back? By whom? This merch set will sell out and other IP owners are envious their franchises don’t have the same ridiculous traction.
I haven’t seen a single positive comment about this so far even in spaces dedicated for fans of GTA, but I also fully recognize that does not necessarily reflect the majority of consumers.
That’s how shitty it must be. They’re just cashing in on the hype before everybody knows
Same I hope it flops, Saint’s Row was always better.
That’s $570CAD for a bunch of rebranded Aliexpress tat.
I would be laughing if I didn’t know that this game will make sales and profit history.
And, I cannot stress this enough, doesn’t come with the game. Even though the game doesn’t have a disc version. They couldn’t even include a damn code.
image the reaction if a $400us collector bundle was the only way to get a physical disc.
A dream for scalpers. :D
Gamers: just let us buy a physical copy of the game
Rockstar: lol here’s some random swag for $400
Sadly Rockstar knows their market here. This thing will sell out, and the game itself will license like hotcakes.
The stupid waste your money set comes with a coke spoon. They know exactly who they’re selling to
Does it come with some coke? I mean $400 is a good amount. =)
You can only license coke now. Obviously it’s too dangerous if you can own it.
/s
lol priceless
Can’t wait to pirate this fucking game when a crack comes out. It’s not like anyone can actually own a copy.
It would be wise to run such things in a VM. I would expect Rockstar to post some editions of GTA6 on pirate sites themselves, except with some spyware attached.
there are trusted uploaders
You all not having a windoz-game-box and a linux for all serious stuff?
No need anymore. Linux for gaming and everything else.
Can’t wait to emulate this game on PC.

Unlimited spoon but no games
As a collector, it’s essentially over for me. I don’t know how many of us are out there that feel that way, but I used to spend a lot of money on games and now I’m going out of my way to not buy any anymore console games. Switch and their virtual cards can also suck it. If I can’t fire something up in 20 years and it can’t play a game, I might as well stick to PC, right? I spent 30 years building my library and owning my games. I guess being able to lend a game to a friend was costing them too much. The resale of used games were dollar signs that they felt belonged to them. Fuck it all.

In the last decade or so, this became more common so that they didn’t have to make 3 SKUs of the same collector’s edition and could also sell these items to digital purchasers. But in this case, there is no disc, so how hard could it be to ship these things with a download code for your $400?
To be fair, no retail version of GTA 6 includes a copy of the game.
Only modern day Rockstar could make me not thrilled for a new GTA
You know it is optional to buy this and the base game is no more expensive than any other game right?
Looks to be $79.99 / £69.99, which is actually more expensive than other games, yes.
But very true on the optional.
There has been more expensive games, that seems to be average price
That two things seem unrelated, and looking at Steam seems to be untrue in general.
I’m actually unsure I could point at a base game that was more expensive, though if you’d like to I’ll admit I’m wrong on that part!
Nintendo has sold a couple of games more expensive than GTA6 and some of them were from last gen
Ok, I’m looking at the Nintendo UK store (https://store.nintendo.com/en-gb) and seeing unreleased/latest first party games at £58.99.
Have you got a specific example?
Searched some more, I see that Mario Kart World standalone launched at 79.99, but nothing else so far. Maybe I’m missing something else!
Are there really that many people out there willing to part with $400 for a mismash of merchandise?
Someone just shelled out 1.2 million to name a porn star’s baby. $400 ain’t nothing to some people.
Just looked this up and for anyone wondering: The pornstar is Bonnie Blue and it was actually a gambling company that bought naming rights. The gambling company is naming the child after itself. Bonnie said she was going to look into the company, and as of now there is no evidence that the child has actually been named that. Gambling companies are doing lots of weird viral marketing lately, so it’s possible this whole thing was prearranged.
Yeah, well. I’ll 3D print you some GTA themed swag and put it in a box that also doesn’t include the game, except I’ll do it for $375. How about that?
As long as there are consumer whores buying this crap they’ll keep making it. I’m surprised they don’t offer a $1000 version that comes out a week earlier.
They’re rubbing it in now. Just let me buy a physical copy ffs. I lined up at midnight to get my copy of GTA 5 on the PS3.
I’d really like them to sell me a physical copy too, except that I have zero intention of buying or playing this game. And yeah I bought the last 3 or 4. GTA 5 twice.
This reminds me of when the World of Warcraft Collectors Editions stop including CD soundtracks.
“Oh, a code for lossy MP3s. Yay.”
