  • Tbh I’m not surprised at the cost. I’m more surprised that it isn’t even more expensive given the state of things.

Will I get one? Idk. Maybe. It’s a decent chunk of change, but I’ve still not dived into VR. I had been waiting for this one because I’m sure it plays nicely with Linux, without having to do some hacky shit, and I like it better than the Index.

  • You’d basically have to repair it the same way it’s built, provided (as the other commenter said) the traces aren’t actually pulled off of the board. If they aren’t, then it’s a matter of soldering that component back in largely the same way it was done at the factory (without the automated machine of course, but by hand with heat and flux). It definitely wouldn’t be easy, but it could be a good learning exercise for the right person.

  • I figure the 256GB model will be entirely fine, especially with the SD card expansion slot. Pity that you can’t upgrade the storage like the Deck, but oh well.

For the life of me I cannot imagine that anything running locally on the Frame would need enough bandwidth from storage to not be able to run it off of SD anyway. For anything using the emulation layer, it’s sure to be slow enough where one won’t notice. For anything running ARM native, it’s sure to be simple enough that one won’t notice.

  • “In this observational work, however, it appears that xylitol has a negative long-term effect on cardiovascular events in the general population. As with all observational studies, causalities are difficult to infer, but this work shows that further studies are mandated into this societally important topic.”

This is important, because the outcome of the study is: we need more studies. It is not that xylitol has been shown to be dangerous, a jump so many comments have made.

There was an observed effect in people who had “high blood levels of xylitol”. But there were few if any other controls:

The researchers also highlighted that the association was independent of underlying factors such as body mass index, hypertension, diabetes and lipid levels, which might predispose people to low-calorie products.

It’s been known for a while that extremely high levels of xylitol can act as a diuretic, but that’s true of a lot of other things, too. That’s also not relevant here. It’s important to not jump to unwarranted conclusions until more proper studies are conducted.
