You stupid AMERICANS and your HIGHWAYS. Good thing no other country uses highways! Now I can feel morally superior for being born elsewhere!

I can tell you’re American by the way you completely misunderstood what you read because of your assumption that someone was jealous of highways

Dutch, actually, but do enlighten me to the deeper philosophical implications of this Tumblr thread, o wise non-American.

Why are you getting offended for Americans? Americans can get plenty offended on their own. Actually, a whole lot more than plenty.

You saw the word highway and assumed someone was jealous of highways. That’s it. It’s not that deep. Maybe it is if you’re American 🤷

Where on earth did you get “jealousy” from? It was clearly a poke at the implication of the original image where a poster was implying that mentioning highways was something that only Americans would do. As if no one else has them. Reads like sarcasm to me.

Nobody implied that “no one else has them” because that would be dumb. You added that all by yourself. The implication is that Americans are consumed by car culture. It’s very common. Do they not have Americans where you’re from?

Answer the question, and try not to be snippy about it. Where did “jealous” come from? Bringing up highways is useful even in a non-American context, because it’s one of the more common experiences where people are crammed together in close proximity, and the split-second safety of everyone depends on things like depth perception.

Tachyon-log implied that was something only an American would do, which leads us to the next part:

“As if no one else has them,” is not literal. I apologize if English isn’t your first language.

Why else would you misunderstand what you read so badly? If you really do feel sorry about English not being my first language, read the original post again

Their point was that other countries do in fact have highways, and so assuming someone is American because they brought up a highway is dumb

These are the people I have to share a bus with*

(While you are dependent on others’ visual processing to be safe on a highway, you’re dependent on others’ hygiene to be safe in public transit).

The smell of the Tube in the summer makes me grateful not to live in London, even people without BO issues smell down there. One can easily mistake it for hell since it’s underground, very hot, very smelly, filled to the brim with the damned, and there’s nothing to do but reflect on your sins.

Curious about the driving without glasses thing. Here in Brazil that would count as admitting an additional violation. How does that work in other countries?

Here your driving license states if you need glasses to drive and you must wear them if it says so. If it doesn’t say anything and you’re caught driving with glasses, that’s also a violation.

In the USA, but this is actually mostly state by state, if one’s license says they must wear glasses, then they must do so, or risk penalties of some sort. (It mostly doesn’t come up in the media.) If the license doesn’t say anything, then anything goes. Some borderline glasses wearers take the vision test, which is a super simplified test (If one cannot pass the driving vision test then the test taker has horrible vision.), without glasses just to not have to delay driving due to misplaced glasses.

To go further, in the USA, the Drivers License tests establish a very low floor. Obtaining it does not mean one is good at driving, but NOT obtaining it within 3 tries means that person SHOULD NOT be driving. They are a danger to all.

Here in California I have a little marker saying I need glasses, literally told the DMV worker to just fail my ass and give me the mark cause I can’t see my monitor while sitting at my desk. Anyways they still had me attempt the damned thing without the portable ballistic glass I call eye water, couldn’t see shit on the second row.

random memory unlocked: In highschool I overheard someone chewing another guy out for almost running him over on the way in. Other dude, obviously stoned out of his gourd, managed “bro sorry I thought you was a bush” before collapsing into a giggle fit
