I can switch between metric and imperial with ease. Like many Canadians, I still do oven temperatures in F, height in feet and inches, and body weight in pounds. But I have a number of coworkers who use metric only, mostly immigrants and young people, and I will tailor my units for the people I’m talking to.
Anyone who thought changing the measurement system wasn’t going to be met with resistance was delusional. People hate change. Sometimes, change is better. As someone who went through it in Canada, there was a lot of disgruntlement from the previous generation, but the rest of us just moved on (mostly), and being able to just use decimals everywhere instead of base 2 fractions here, decimals there, multiples of 12 over there was absolutely refreshing. Now my kids barely even use imperial and just shake their heads when the oldsters talk about it.
And I’d still rather measure people’s weight in pounds than in stone like a monster.
Engineered obsolescence is rarely a good idea. If the motherboard specs or s9cket don’t need to change to support the new chip, keep it. If the only thing motherboard manufacturers have going for them is an artificially required piece of hardware, then they deserve to be outpaced by their competitors.

Yes, but governments usually try to plan for outcomes that last more than 4 years. As it is now, the second a rational president is in place starts a timer counting down to a completely unknown situation. Who would want to take a risk on that? This leaves you with allies who are only there now, because they know thats all they can rely on. And if they aren’t rewarded immediately, in political terms, they won’t bother, either.
From what I can see, one of two things happens. First, the main cloud communications are intercepted and handled by Valetudo. It replaces the cloud infrastructure with the firmware it adds to the vacuum. Second, some require connectivity to your router or the internet in general. Connections to your router shouldn’t be harmful, and he specifically leaves blocking connections to the internet (which shouldn’t be required for the vacuum to function). I’m only speculating here, but given the open-endedness of the comment I’m guessing explicitly blocking certain connections could be considered an illegal circumvention by laws such as the DMCA. I’d like them to note which vacuums those are so they could be more easily avoided.
My favorite are the temporary, handwritten signs that look like they’re 5 years old. Had this happen where, the first time I went to this store in a mall, there were 3 or 4 people standing around in what I would not describe as a queue, walked past them and opened the door, was told to wait outside until someone could help me, actually noticed the sign, then correctly assumed the mass of people outside were also waiting their turn.
The code is open source. Like any open source software, unless it’s been vetted, you’re relying on trust. The premise is that the software is running on the vacuum, so there is no cloud or remote storage. So, just like anything else self-hosted, unless your network is compromised or you configure it to allow it, nothing external is accessing it. If you don’t trust it, vet it. Read the code or check your network logs.

One of the reasons I bought the (smart) car charger i did was because it supports OCPP (open Charge Point Protocol) and a vendor-provided secondary firmware that more easily supports OCPP (and the ability to rent out your charger to people on the network).
From what I gather, valetudo sits between the firmware and the cloud, co-opting cloud functionality and serving that from the vacuum. Since nothing is going to the cloud, only the information stored on the robot, or that you’ve stored yourself, can be used against you. So while your vacuum may have a microphone or camera, it shouldn’t be recording what you say or do anywhere. I have yet to start my valetudo journey and have barely started my robot vacuum journey precisely because of scenarios like this.

The math and prefix conversion is intuitive (because most of the world uses base-10 these days). There is nothing particularly intuitive or handy for either of them with respect to temperature - you just learn what it means and work with it. I’ve been using metric since I was 6, so like a good Canadian weather is metric and baking is Fahrenheit. When I talk about combustion points, melting points of metals, boiling point of water, back to metric. See? Intuitive.

Well, not exactly. Some people get angry their faces are on our money and want to change that. Other people get angry that anyone would ever want to remove their faces from our money. While I’m not overly fond of having to see Charlie Sasuagehands’s picture on our money, that’s more to do with him than the monarchy in general.
Under the previous trends, Windows 12 should be surprisingly good - every other version was. I expect they’ve refined their development methodology, though, and inconsistent behavior such as good releases will no longer be tolerated.
It would be really awesome if he went out there, took the time to pray with them, and shared his happiness in the peace and harmony of many cultures living together like in New York City.
My current employer will not authorize the use of a password manager. I have a key fob for my Microsoft account, and another account does phone verification. I use one password. If they don’t want to put the effort in for account security then neither do I. I use a password manager for nearly all my other accounts.
