Unity has temporarily closed its offices in San Francisco and Austin, Texas and canceled a town hall meeting after receiving death threats. The company made the call as a precaution against possible retribution after it announced a contentious change to its business model this week.
No matter what shitty corporate excuse they give us, death threats are never, ever okay. The people working regular jobs there are never in control of these decisions
Rich would happily kill hundreds( and do)
That’s the difference. Poor’s have a moral sense and always advocate that killing is bad. The rich don’t. You don’t get rich without exploitation.
Quite literally in this case, the rich unity devs execs are harming poor game devs. Imagine selling a game for a dollar on steam and having to beg your users not to install it more than three times because it would literally cost you money. Imagine going bankrupt because you put a game on gamepass and a small fraction of gamepass subscribers installed your game and opened it once before uninstalling.
I’m not going to call for violence against Unity staff whoever is in charge of this moneygrubbing sin, because doing so would be illegal and I could be arrested and thrown in jail for it.
Not staff. They don’t make the decisions. The shareholders likely. They are the scum. The staff will get death threats lose their jobs and they wouldn’t even make the money if it was successful. Shareholders are bad for humanity
Of course not. I actually never said anyone deserves to die. If you read through the thread a little bit further, you’ll see me say that my impotent anger (and lack of calls for violence) are actually directed at whoever is responsible for this moneygrubbing sin.
I’m still blaming the company though. It, as a whole, is fucking over thousands of people. It should expect some people to react angrily when they see that their career, or at least the biggest part of their career, is over, and it’s because some semi-sentient suit decided he wanted more money right now, at the cost of the company’s reputation and your friend’s career after the company inevitably closes.
Wow you moved the goalposts fast. Your comment says “I’m blaming the victim”. My friend is the victim of these death threats. Backpedal as much as you want, but your comment clearly endorses violence against her.
Of course - if that’s not what you meant and you regret what you said, then I hope our interaction makes you think about the world more complexly in the future. Violence is not the answer. We can never move forward as a society by sinking to the lowest denominator. We have to rise above. We have to be better than the villans who are trying to ruin our world.
If you wanna call correcting an impulsive and misguided statement “moving the goalposts fast,” then sure
I’m not endorsing violence against anyone. I was blaming Unity as a company for inciting those death threats. Saying “what were they expecting?” isn’t endorsing the threats against them, it’s saying that they should have known better than to yank a bunch of people’s careers out from under them.
I hope you can understand that the hatred people have for Unity isn’t aimed toward your friend, the same way that the general public’s hatred toward Walmart isn’t aimed at the cashiers who work there.
Are people threatening your friend as a named individual, or are people threatening the company as a whole?
I’m glad you’re willing to say it was impulsive and misguided. I do understand the frustration - I feel it too. I’m on the same side of the issue as you.
Similarly, I hope you understand that I just can’t stand for people calling for violence.
From a practical perspective - by making these threats, all these people have done is undermined the position that you and I know is right.
Before, Unity had to answer for what they did. Now they can just pass off all criticism as coming from nutjobs who are crazy enough to make death threats. This is a great example of why language matters, and if we want our views to succeed, we have a responsibility to be better than the villans who stand in our way.
Fuck it, I’m blaming the victim. What did they expect? If you kill a few thousand people’s careers, some of them are gonna get angry
No matter what shitty corporate excuse they give us, death threats are never, ever okay. The people working regular jobs there are never in control of these decisions
Eat The Rich.
Friendly reminder: Eating the rich is always vegan.
Exactly.

I mean I’m not that big into finance but if I’m reading this page right I don’t think any shareholders have large enough stake to have that much influence. This looks like C-suite
Fair enough. Someone is pushing for it though. Dicks
I agree ‘wink wink nudge nudge’
My friend works at unity. She’s a sweet person who takes care of an elderly dog in her free time. She was very opposed to this decision.
Does she deserve to die?
