I mean… I hope we can all understand the sheer frustration upon the insane US election result, right? But… are you thinking that it’s specifically worse than that…? I mean, floof man, let’s just get back to owls, if so…?
There’s the election, which has people rightfully mad, but I feel 99% of us are on the same side of that, but everyone seems angsty with each other, people mad at the .World staff over bans, and now drama over the 196 people and blahaj. Just too much fighting and not enough community. I try to be here as a relief to you all from it, but sometimes that’s makes it hard for me, not feeling I have a place to go.
Myself, I was joyful to discover the Fediverse at one point, being utterly disgusted with Reddit’s management (ala the summer of 2023 crackdowns), and thinking that most people here would automagically share a sort of ‘uplifting, positive mindset.’ Sadly, the same old behavior that I’ve seen online since the late 80’s (yes, I’m old) was still in full effect, so unfortunately (IMO) there’ll always be abusers, exploiters and bad actors upon a system, even given the most utopian system imaginable.
Bottom line to me is that we’re not living in our natural state anymore (long story), and that such disaster tends to stress us out and mess with us in various ways, up to and including making bad decisions and lashing out upon each other. Indeed, I wish I could say that I was some ‘noble’ kind of person, but I consider myself just as much of an idiot and asshole as the rest of the flock.
Still though-- there’s a sort of ‘release’ upon realising and accepting these things. I’m no saint of course, but understanding and accepting that reality makes me feel kinder and more open to people, and more open to just plain reality in general.

Well, your wonderful posts are certainly a relief and bosom, source of life to us all, I think.
And you always have a place to go with friends, like me and whoever else you got.
I came here with the mass reddit exodus too, and I loved what was going on here for that summer. It felt like a group of people looking to make a positive place and had more of an old Internet feel.
As we’ve settled in here, it feels we’ve lost much of that and many have fallen back to those old habits of just letting opinions fly at each other, and we’ve got more arguing than cooperation.
I get everyone is upset, but to me, that pushes me to be more cooperative, not more isolated. I was actually happy to see this thread when I got up this morning because people were calmly discussing what was making them upset and feeling trapped by life. If we could approach more threads calmly like this, I’d be so much happier.
I’m surprised you’re at least a little older than me from the sound of it, you have a more youthful character to me! 😁. I do appreciate you and the others that hang out here with me. There’s still quite a number of good people here. My real life is about 50/50 good and bad now, so I’ve been trying to jump between worlds" between people here and IRL, but it’s become a bit more challenging for me recently.
Oh, shoot, sorry, what’s up with that?

Ah, I think I see what you’re saying.
