They didn’t sell well, so no point maintaining the code when things break due to changes.
That’s worse than just not maintaining code. They could stop maintaining it, but keep the current version active. Instead, they remove it entirely, and now a physical object that was purchased becomes ewaste.
They didn’t remove support from earlier versions of windows though.

If products, you are one of the people they make money on. And they couldn’t care less if you lose out.It’s amazing how good Microsoft is at making money relative to how bad they are at making products.
