GTA2 was my introduction to gta, but
frame generation
gags
(also gags to nvidia, but that’s a whole series of bullshit so I’ll refrain)
while I generally agree, this is probably the only case where frame generation is not that awful. the original GTA2 was capped to 30 fps. it was possible to set it to 60 fps but then the game ran on double speed. so with this you can make it smoother without changing the underlying engine’s logic and run speed.
in my opinion, the lighting with this looks very nice and suddenly the game doesn’t look outdated at all anymore, I’m kinda hyped. I never liked any of the 3D GTAs and I take GTA2 out every few years (mostly on small LAN parties). however, we use version 11.44, this seems to target 9.6
for comparison (only identical scene I found, this is probably among the darkest scenes the game has): original remix
Why would anyone want any of that? And why would you need frame Gen? Our hardware runs circles around the requirements so fast it looks like a blur.
Was the original locked to 30fps? The article doesn’t specify. If not, yeah, I’d rather just to native 60fps. I know path tracing is demanding but I’d scale back quality to hit 60fps long before I’d turn on frame generation.
