He’s a twitch streamer that strongly supports the DSA, so he’s a Social Democrat. He has a few million viewers and has been helping DSA candidates this midterm cycle, so he became a big target of the media. He’s okay, the biggest benefit IMO is that he doesn’t do the typical socdem thing by endlessly condemning socialist countries and trying to separate himself from them, which is why he gets labeled a communist despite being a SocDem.
He labeled himself a socialist. He also talks out of both mouths, he calls himself anti Zionist but it’s currently bragging about his positive interviews Israeli media where he said he wants to build bridges with Zionists.
He’s a net positive in grabbing people from the far right and pushing them left. He’s a net negative when it comes to liberal Zionism and normalizing the colonization of Palestine.
If you’re a centrist or right leaning, by all means watch him. If you’re already a leftist, you can avoid the brainrot.

So I kind of doubt “building bridges” was some centrist take. It was more likely about educating ignorant/confused American Zionists out of that mindset, if I had to guess based on what I know of him. If you have access to the article though, I’m happy to read a copy/paste of it.
I do agree that an “Israeli leftist” publication seems suspicious at best. However, Piker appears on other right-wing media all the time. Fox News, Peirs Morgan, etc. So I don’t think his giving an interview necessarily endorses them.

To be fair, Hasan is a Communist, and has called himself as such in the past. He uses the Progressive and Democratic-Socialist labels more these days for the same reason he wears suits now, to look less threatening to the audience seeing him on TV.
Hasan is more of a communist-sympathizing social democrat. His strategy is overwhelmingly reformist.
At most you might say he’s a Democratic Socialist, because his goal is still to eventuate the abolition of capitalism. He’s a Communist who knows the best available action is political mobilization. He’s certainly not a SocDem who only wants to reform capitalism. He’s openly spoken in favor of worker revolution, but he’s also aware that such a thing isn’t possible in America, at least at this moment.
Democratic socialists are social democrats in practice, considering it is impossible to reform capitalism into socialism. Revolution is absolutely possible, but it isn’t something you trigger, it is a response to crisis with an organized revolutionary class. We need to organize so that crisis turns to revolution.
You’re saying what Hasan says, idk what else to tell you. He’s not trying to reform capitalism into socialism, he’s organizing a political base that will be capable of turning the coming political crises into a productive Communist movement.
I disagree that he is succeeding in that by going through the DSA and focusing so hard on electoralism. It’s important to understand the necessity of democratic centralism and consistent revolutionary rhetoric, because otherwise we fall into the same problems as the second international and the SPD.

Trump is raging at people who aren’t even running for office because that’s how incompetent he is. If you want to watch some streamer because you like their show then go for it. But they aren’t the ones who are going to change the law. So whenever anyone brings up streamers instead of candidates, you know they’re either incompetent or afraid or both.
