  • obviously a news show isn’t going to feel the same rewatching it. that’s not the point lol.

that would be like saying it’s dumb to preserve newspapers in libraries because it’s not going to feel as good rereading the “Hitler is dead” headline. people don’t look at old news to have a good time.

boy was it silly of us to preserve that kind of thing and it totally never comes in handy/s

that’s not even what people are upset about anyway. comedy Central mostly makes entertainment programming that isn’t news based and can still be enjoyed whenever. believe it or not, comedy Central has a lot of content that will stand the test of time. especially when looking at their stand-up catalogue.

this is the destruction of a library. a digital one, but a library none the less. that’s what people are mad about.

but you’re right. we should just dump all of our old movies and shows. they’re worthless moldy junk anyway… 🙄

  • we still have a couple of lemon giving phrases that survive “when life gives you lemons”. “looks like that car you bought is a lemon”

lemons are sour instead of sweet like most fruit. my guess is that a lemon is a thing to generally make your day/life worse, especially if it seemed like a good thing at first.

makes sense in the context of a “confirmed bachelor”. he’s giving that lemon to a stork. he’s not going to have children. someone married him and he’s not going to have children. back in the day that would be seen as defeating the point of marriage, though the real implication is he’s gay and married for a beard.

in the context of other relationships or a breakup they thought they were dating someone for keeps, turns out they weren’t worth it. they were a lemon, looked sweet but tasted sour when bitten into.

  • all of the “real” Martial arts from back before guns were about using weapons. those aren’t really practiced as much anymore because they’re all useless in the face of firearms anyway. why spend years training with a knife when the same time could be spent training with a gun. if combat effectiveness is your goal then you need to learn modern combat techniques.

that said, there’s plenty to be learned from it, and it’s not like it can’t help you in a fight. but as another commenter said, the real way to win every fight is by avoiding them. so really the best thing to learn is de-escalation and recognizing danger.

hmmm, my family couldn’t afford vacations. when we visited family out of state we’d always have someone house sit to take care of the animals. usually a neighbor.

being the youngest boy and the biggest lover of animals, i became the default to do that for out neighbors when they were out.

it was a lovely little neighborhood.

but also, back then social media was young and pretty much only young people were on it. for my parents to give me advice about what to put on my blogspot or Facebook would have made me guffaw. hell, correctly identifying the platform and that one could share vacation plans on it would have been a big ask.

because some people don’t think those are an end all be all solution even if they can identify the problem.

problem and solution are not tied together yet. right now we only have the problem. this poster is indicating that they aren’t sold on those being the solutions. there are many paths forward, it’s fair to not know which one is right yet.

hell, it’s more unreasonable to say you KNOW your solution will fix this. none of these economic systems have been successfully tested in large scale. they are all just theoretical. to change to a new one is scary and dangerous and must be done with much thought, consideration, and care.

  • but there’s so many other ways to change difficulty.

change number of enemies and where they spawn change gear and abilities, the Witcher did that one with how the stamina system worked. it didn’t drain on the lower difficulties. horizon zero dawn made everything in the shops more expensive and made the enemies drop less money. honestly, that one also sucked. only served to make the game grindier.

    point is, there’s other options.

eh, i think in photography you actually learn better habits and skills on older, more limited gear. it’s easy to nail exposure when your camera can handle work at 3,000 iso, but then when you’re at the edge of what your camera is capable of you’ll be less able to tease out the performance you need. it’s why i will keep my old canon rebel t2i. whenever someone wants to learn a little i toss them that thing. it can still take great pictures , you just have to work within its limitations. it’s why my broadcast school made me learn to do reel to reel tape editing. when you know how much tape you have and how much of a pain it is to edit you will be way way better about getting your shot right the first time and every time.

these days, instead of using these tools as a crutch to shoot sloppier knowing that the gear can handle it now, i use them as a booster to do when more than i would have been able to before. i still shoot at the minimum viable iso every time on my a7siii, the difference is now i can keep shooting until the stars are plainly visible without needing a tripod.

ironically, this doesn’t seem to hold quite as true for video now that i think about it. video is so tech and tool based. often it’s newer guys that embrace the new tech and techniques that the old heads snub their noses at that end up doing the best. maybe not in Hollywood, but Hollywood is a totally different animal from what 99% of videographers do. I’m talking about video outside of Hollywood. often these newer tools will be lower quality less professional tools for quick turnaround. the kind of thing that corporate America is all about these days. quantity over quality is the name of the game in today’s video world more often than not.

a video camera from 15 years ago is likely almost useless today for any real work, a stills camera from 25 years ago could be used to make a billboard ad right now.

  • there may not be a correlation between race and length, but there is a correlation between race and percentage of spongey tissue.

this is basically what creates the difference between what people call a “grower” vs. a “shower”. black people are slightly statistically more likely to be “showers” having a larger flaccid size. I bet this is where the idea stems from. the extreme examples is this will, however, achieve a less hard erection. so it’s not all bad for the growers. that said, porn stars have tricks to achieve longer harder erections. Viagra is the absolute norm on professional porn sets. meth and other stimulants also run rampant. it’s generally not actually pleasant work.

the racial statistical correlation is weak, and not really worth much. it’s about as significant as some peoples being taller on average. in fact, much less so, because “black” isn’t a distinct population. i have no idea if there have been better more detailed and representative studies done on this. the only one I’ve seen just went off of general demographic data sets like “non Hispanic white” or “black”. maybe you could argue it’s not worth studying, but damnit, everyone kinda wants to know. it’s all talked about often enough. we should really get to the deepest bottom of it just to end the argument. even though proving things with data never ends arguments.
