Please stop posting this as an authority saying it’s valid. It’s an internet discussion with a robust debate about whether it’s valid or ambiguous, which means it’s ambiguous. The only valid conclusion here is that while one might have their own convention on this, it’s not universal and this should be phrased another way. “Replace meat with beans,” for example.

Sounds like something hippies cultivate in their armpits.
Love kombucha, kimchee, yogurt, beer, soy sauce, sauerkraut, bread… can’t stand nutritional yeast. It goes straight to my sinuses and stings them.
There’s no rule here. Note “usually means” in their comment. This is an ambiguous phrase for which some people have a convention but it’s inherently weak. Anyone writing a headline should have better instincts about usage and style.
I agree with you. I don’t know about “wrong” but the title is ambiguous. A post on stackexchange does not make something a rule, though there may be conventions for this with some people or in some regions that are strong enough to convince some people that there is one.

News@lemmy.world•Tennessee inmate still alive after being administered two lethal injections, her lawyer says
2·2 days agoThe angle of execution being a harm is pretty obvious, but on the other hand they could reduce suffering (a harm) by by helping ensure it’s done right. But I guess the oath doesn’t compel them to reduce harm, just not add to it.

News@lemmy.world•Tennessee inmate still alive after being administered two lethal injections, her lawyer says
11·3 days agoAnd we’ve all clutched our pearls about it many times. But lethal injection is only more humane for the witnesses. These botched injections are common and the process is not painless by a long shot. The prisoner is simply immobilized by a first injection before a second, excruciating one kills them. I’d seriously consider a bullet to the head if it were me.

News@lemmy.world•Tennessee inmate still alive after being administered two lethal injections, her lawyer says
29·3 days agoI’ve been hearing for years that it’s very hard for the government to find qualified doctors who will work with them on this technology or help administer it, and that makes it extremely hard to carry out reliably. This is far from an isolated incident.

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•Star Wars vs Star Trek: a guide [Tommy Siegel]
1·3 days agoThis is all accurate but I think the same effect was hitting everyone in the whole franchise. They were all incredibly famous and getting all mannner of offers to do everything under the sun and it was going to be hard to keep all of them together for that much longer. It wasn’t exactly Harry Potter where all the principals were children who grew up making the movies. By the finale, even the actors who started young were in their prime.

So it’s really a toss up. Somehow Abrahms returned and ROS hit the lowest lows in the series.

1·3 days agoNo, “grandpa” grew up reading the X-Men and later learned what a marvelous piece of extreme engineering this plane actually is. I’ve seen variants at aerospace museums. They are truly beautiful to behold.

FFS yes Republicants are hypocrites etc etc but Americans do not in fact need to eat a steak at every meal.

News@lemmy.world•Trump cuts fuel economy standards back to 2014 levels
12·4 days agoThe thinking is: forget international - just build enormous tanks for Americans because they love them and will pay more for them. Only problem is they run up against some limits with respect to fuel economy laws.
The top selling vehicle in America for like over a decade is the Ford F-150 truck. 80% of cars sold in the US are trucks and SUVs.
Ford motor company doesn’t even make a passenger car anymore - except the Mustang which is a small run sports car nostalgia wank.
These companies aren’t trying to make the car of tomorrow for the whole world. They are trying to make as much profit as possible from a somewhat captive market which happens to be one of the wealthiest in the world.
All clear now? It’s evil and it sucks but it shouldn’t be a mystery.

This is so much a standard part of the job. He not only can’t take it, he’s an idiot to be surprised by it.
