Cycling kickstarters have an awful track record. Make sure it’s make by an actual cycling company and even then it’s better to do a late pledge after some fulfillment and reviews.

Everything search app is easily my most used on my Windows PC. Instant, as-you-type file search by name with detail sorting and wildcard support. I set a keyboard shortcut as well. It puts Explorer search to shame. As good as Spotlight, which I was missing from when I had a Mac in 2008.

LaunchyQT - modern fork of Launchy that actually gets development. App launcher, dead simple.

FanControl - Fan curve software with all the features I want including hybrid temp sources, sensible automatic settings, visual graphs with an intuitive interface.

AutoHotKey - Hotkey scripting language that I can use even as someone who barely codes.

Transcribe! - Not open-source but it’s a reasonably priced audio and video slow down app for transcribing.

I watched it and it’s intriguing. The characters have similar roles to the real show and speak in similar ways. The problem is that the “writer” has no point of view and therefore the satire was completely missing.

Way overdue feature. I agree, perfect for locating bundle pieces as those quickly fall off the recent list.

I’m more certain about the first search part.

The first time anybody on your instance searches for a separate lemmy community, your Lemmy instance reaches out for the other community and learns that it exists. After that point it shows up in searches and after one person subscribes it appears in your instance’s All feed.

It’s really hard to know if any particular animal feels pain. There are also hundreds of kinds of jellyfish with a variety of levels of intelligence. Some vegans would tell you that just because the nature of their intelligence is alien to us doesn’t mean it’s less valuable. Personally I find it difficult to empathize with any creature that lacks a brain, especially plants.

Kind of unrelated but squids are often extremely intelligent, and are definitely not vegan in my book.

I like the idea of a locally stored and locally encrypted password manager because when your passwords are on somebody else’s server with 10s of thousands of other people, that server becomes an attractive target for hacks. Who would bother hacking my computer just for one set of passwords?

But with something hosted, they do (probably, do your research) have professional security experts working to protect their database.

Just look at what Spotify has done to the music industry. There was a massive contraction in the music buying market and music streaming services now are fully dominant. And Spotify + Apple have used their oligopoly status to fuck over artists and even record labels, forcing them to accept a fraction of a penny per stream.

It’s not a one to one comparison, but I could see subscription-based game licensing crowding out buy to own games eventually if Microsoft keeps consolidating the market as it has been. And then, once consumers are used to never paying for games individually, Microsoft, Amazon, Sony, etc will be able to dictate whatever terms they want to game developers.

I highly doubt it will be in the format of a flash portal. It sounds closer to the Netflix model of producing and licensing games for subscribers.

Stadia was basically a game console as a service, assuming you had good enough internet. You had to pay for the subscription for access, then pay for each game individually. The one benefit of that was very little initial barrier to entry, as you just needed chromecast and a stadia controller.

Youtube playables appears to be just lightweight html5 web app games that run locally in your browser, similar to what flash player was like.

Yeah, Framework seems like a premium product for sure. I want one but I definitely can’t afford it anytime soon. Also worth noting that a new framework mainboard rivals the price of some entire laptops. So while it is definitely upgradable and one of the most repairable laptops in the world, it is still a pricy ecosystem to be in.
