  • Can someone explain me how it helps people? The article references another article on the same site to cite a study that found that Instacart was using ai to charge people “who can afford it” more (up to 20%) for the same items. The article talks about this as a huge win during affordability crisis, SNAP program cuts, and how it will help people who “just trying to put food on their table”.

Well, I think most of people who try to save money on groceries are not using Instacart. The go to the store, where price gauging is much more complicated. So this bill would affect purchases made by people who aren’t usually counting every penny at the register.

And what will the companies do? Will they just keep prices low for everyone now? Or they will just increase it for everyone to keep the overall margin level? Something tells me it’s going to be latter…

I don’t know, probably Im missing something, but I just don’t see why this is celebrated this much. At the very least it just looks… weak and PR heavy. At worst, it will increase costs for everyone.

Maybe, highlighting the problem of corporate surveillance is a good thing that comes from it.

  • Big retailers may have options for local pickup. Amazon has delivery boxes, local pickup from store is available in bestbuy, home depot, Microcenter… I think you can pick up Walmart purchases in stores too (not sure about this one). But unless there is a delivery box they may ask for ID.

Or, a USPS PO box, as others suggested. You can rent one in person, pay cash, but they will require your personal information anyway. But that allows you to break the direct tracking - seller will not know your address, and in general they don’t need to know your real name. I receive packages on fake names via po box no problem. The problem can happen if USPS will lose your package. I guess returns or warranty calls may become more complicated…

  • Playing it rn, at chapter 3. I like how they change the scale of the events in every chapter so far. The combat for boring somewhere in between chapter 1 and 2, though - maybe because I play on Normal. But I like the setting, characters are fun, though after BG3 it feels like not enough meaningful interaction with them.

I’ve read that DLCs are good, so I’m thinking the second playthrugh with Heretic character and DLCs.

  • You probably need to figure out what do you want. There is nothing wrong to be alone, not have family or kids. Unless it bothers you. There is nothing wrong to rent a home. Unless it bothers you. Figure out what you want, how the future in which you want to leave looks like. If you can’t, maybe talking to a psychologist worth a try - decide what problem you are trying to solve, book a few sessions, see if that moves you towards your better self.

Financially, I agree with many on this thread - keeping all $100k on a savings account is one of the worst things to do with your money. Keep a couple of months of expenses on savings, put the rest to work. CDs are mostly safe, and help offset the inflation. Buying home isn’t a bad option, and if it’s just a place for you to live, don’t consider it an investment depends on location, but you’ll likely save on monthly payments vs rent.

Once you figure out what you want from your life, talk to a financial advisor to set realistic financial goals and decide on home purchase or investments.

  • You are doing a good job here! I’ll let others fight over your software choices, and just add some things that you might want to add:

Keyboard app (Android): I’m using Futo keyboard, but there are other options if FUTO isn’t your cup of tea.

Translation app (Android): “Translator” on F-Droid is a feature rich, fully local.

These two can replace respective apps from Google that you like have installed by default.

  • Ha, you may be underestimating your survival instinct. Look at historical events like sieges. Resource shortage, dangerous environment, social collapse - all that can be expected in post-apocalyptic world. And people did survive. Eating whatever they can find or catch, leaving in cold, and filth, getting sick, witnessing death and other horrors… People survived.

Unless you get killed, or shoot yourself, you would wish you came prepared for that kind of times…

  • I just had a similar conversation recently… Looks like 3G is also dead, at least in US, so some cars from 2010s also can’t connect to the network anymore. However, depending on make and model, this “problem” may have been mitigated during a routine dealership service by upgrading hardware or software… Maybe it’s worth researching which models never got the “fix”
