I do not like to kill things. And I do not like being around things being killed. But I do like haveing large wilderness areas to hike and access to lakes for boating. And whenever I look into which groups I should support to keep those areas open it seems like the hunting and fishing groups are the ones making it happen. So I dunno. Politics make strange bed fellows I guess.

2·8 days agoThanks! I think this is really great advice. My religious watching of Vice Grip Garage has helped me out a few times over the years. I have an old boat, and I do wrench on it now and then out of necessity, since it’s so hard to find good marine mechanics. Maybe the next car purchase should be an old square body Chevy.

2·9 days agoYou might be surprised. I have a 2017 chevy and it definitely does report data back to GM. I have a close friend that works there and was able to confirm this. I thought there was no way since it was old, and it has no internet access of any kind that I can see. But it uses the cell network to report back data. I suspect it reports alot less interesting data than new cars. But for sure, it is sending data back to GM over the cell network.

5·9 days agoThere were a few small subreddits I hung on for. Just a few niche communities that flew below the radar and avoided some of the bots and other enshitification. But when they forced logon for old reddit. I was done. I’ve been so happy here on Lemmy. I reminds me of how fun reddit used to be.

13·9 days agoSerious question, what new car can I buy that won’t spy on me and send all my data to the manufacturer? I’ll be in the market for a new car in a couple of years, and I’ve had a hard time finding anything where this wasn’t an issue.

I never complain about someone giving me prepared food. I spend so much of my life obtaining, storing, preparing, and cleaning up after making food that I see any meal given to me as a wonderful gift of time.

19·1 month agoI always thought this was a bad argument anyway. The point of learning arithmetic was to develop your ability to reason and to learn study skills and habits. A similar argument could be you won’t always have a car so you’d better learn to run. But I don’t run because I’m worried I won’t have transportation. I run/hike to stay fit.

31·2 months agoThis one confuses me. I never receive text messages about my packages. I get around 5 deliveries a week on average and maybe a dozen on a heavy week, and I have never had a reason to get my phone involved. The package is either delivered successfully, or I can see from the seller there was an issue, and I deal with them. A few times the delivery service has left a note and I’ve called them. Why are folks even bothering to allow text messages for deliveries?
