2 days agoMate, “the West” isn’t limited to Western Europe, the USA, Canada, and Australia. Australia is the same longitude as China. Are you going to say it’s not the West because of that?

The West was laughing and pointing at China. “Look at them surveilling their citizens! So cringe.” Meanwhile, people massively bought into surveillance capitalism, gobbled up all the bullshit about “if you have nothing to hide”, and look where it’s taking us. Yet people continue to buy Google products, swear that Malus won’t ever be evil and store their lives on iPhones and Macs, they vote for right-wing candidates who talk about building walls, surveilling the poor, foreign, and different, and don’t somehow fail to see how their countries are slowly becoming more China-like.

As soon as there’s money involved, everybody loses their convictions. My question though is: why does Saudi Arabia recognise the importance and opportunity of eSports, but the west doesn’t? Saudi Arabia can get involved because there aren’t other countries and companies taking eSports seriously. A bunch of old dude still think that physical sports are the main industry and will be forever, but gaming makes more money than the entire filming industry and sports industry combined.

51·19 days agoA single folder and power consumption is important --> syncthing. It doesn’t have great power consumption, but since the devices aren’t constantly on, you can just start syncthing up on the portable devices when needed. You can configure syncthing to sync when connecting to a specific Wifi, when power saving mode is turned off, I think even specific times.
It’ll run fine on a server and can be configured .

Meta programming is capable of that. People have written entire text-driven games that run in the compiler.
I wanted to try Heroes of the Storm to play with Kerrigan and Doom, but they never made it cross platform, and I don’t think it was ever released on Steam. The idea of everybody levelling together instead of individually seemed like a great idea, but IMO that should’ve been a game mode instead of the main one.
Anyway, no MOBAs for me anymore. Hopefully OpenChamp will become something great!
League has been and always will be bad. They don’t allow mods like in DotA 2, barely change the map, don’t make huge “WTF is going on???” patches, won’t mainline URF, don’t allow the game to change (if you’re playing a support hero, it may not be used as a carry otherwise it will be nerfed), the game is just in general stale af. Seasoned players and eSports watchers can call nearly all picks and bans ahead of time.
The game is also grindy as hell. You don’t start out with access to all your champs and can’t just drop into a 10-20 minute match that doesn’t count and is a fun place to experiment. There aren’t tournaments for noobs and the lack of custom games also makes that less possible.
The toxic community is only beaten by DotA’s community. The only thing going for league is that it makes money and has a dedicated team on it. Valve has maybe 5 staff working on DotA, does no marketing, no ads, no widespread press releases, … The only new players it got where simps for new heroes from their awful anime.
Maybe a buffer overflow?

I absolutely agree. Customers are just endorphin (dopamine?) riddled animals waiting for the next opportunity for expenditure to drop.
I’m not even joking, this is the problem with pretty much everything. If we could pace ourselves, the world would look very different, but we just can’t stop consuming. I have colleagues who kill boredom with shopping.
That’s why I said “seed them on I2P” 😅
