I think it’s a fundamental problem of social media as a technology tbh, and we’d be mostly better off without it.

An interesting one too. It acts as a message to investors about AI’s power, but also a message to users about it being a really messy and shite tool.
If I ask a piece of software to accomplish a task I don’t want it to cause a buggerload of new problems in the process.
This is probably part of the reason why AI is getting so much investment but is not turning a profit.

Mine is on pretty much all the time. Capchas are indeed annoying, but I’m choosing to see that as something which helps me to be more intentional about my use of the internet.
My bank and government portal don’t seem to care about it, even if my traffic is coming from a random country on the other side of the world because I’ve forgotten to route through one of my VPN’s domestic servers. Online freelancing platforms, on the other hand, have instantly banned my accounts, and I’ve had problems with corporate social media (which I try and use for my business).
Even if you are a millionaire. If you had a million invested in a simple index fund you would have got paid about 130k last year for doing absolutely nothing - just for holding wealth.
If you’re working, it is people with investments like that who are literally depriving you of either higher wages or better state provision of stuff you need.
The other day I was driving down a single-lane road and there was a guy literally standing motionless in the middle of the road looking at his phone.
I got right up behind him without him noticing (earphones in) and then blasted the horn.
I think it made quite an impression on him.
