  • I don’t have a researched answer, but the reason breastfeeding women can still drink is because breast milk also shares the blood alcohol level so when Mom is too drunk to drive, baby is drinking alcoholic milk with a percentage ~0.08%; for reference non alcoholic beer can be up to 0.5% and alcoholic beer is generally anywhere between 2.5-10%.

All that to say that idk anything about mosquito physiology but with arbitrary assumptions of roughly equal alcohol tolerances between humans and mosquitos, and with a human blood alcohol limit of ~0.4% before the human dies of alcohol, those mosquitoes are sipping on nonalcoholic beer no matter how drunk you get. Unless they have abnormally low tolerance, and a quick Google search doesn’t suggest they do, humans can’t raise their blood alcohol enough to impair mosquitos.

  • Lots of good answers, but I’ll throw another in: pollution of the Internet with slop. I’ll search for e.g. what good flashlights with ‘n’ features are and there will be hundreds of near-identical listicles that are clearly hallucinated. I’ll try to look at a local restaurant’s menu and it will bring me to a fabricated webpage with ai generated images of food (with Wonder brand Hont Doug bundts yesterday!) and a menu that is very obviously factually incorrectly.

There have always been low-effort fake listicles and bad information, but it used to be easy to avoid the couple links per search or to refine the search to be specific enough to rule them out. Now I’m not convinced there aren’t websites that generate poor quality content on the fly based on whatever I just searched.

  • I mean, I didn’t say world ending, I said species ending. With climate change we have already observed species going extinct at an increasingly quick pace, and it’s hubris to think we couldn’t eventually be one of them if things continue.

Likewise, the potential for nuclear war seems less unlikely than it did 5 years ago, 10, or 20 years ago, and would wipe out many species and could potentially wipe out humanity, or enough of humanity to permanently reshape the species.

The rhetoric of the entire world ending is extremist, but it’s not sci-fi anymore to imagine that in a few generations there may be no recognizable modern humans, even if there are bipedal hominids still roaming around. It’s not even speculative to imagine a world missing many of its current species, just go to any coral reef and compare it to pictures from 50 years ago.
