  • Agreed, even a half step is better than none in the right direction. It’s a worthwhile pursuit to spend time figuring it out. I don’t see any benefit in inflicting pain and suffering on someone as retribution or “teaching”. The system is deeply flawed as it stands now, there’s an endless number of things to be fixed. I have no idea what an ultimate solution might look like (not as a monolith but a process over time) but I have faith it can exist. I’ll take being proven wrong over giving up.

You have hope and it’s a bit infectious. Kinda need as much of that as I can get these days. Thank you for responding, I appreciate it

  • Satisfactory. I’m a Factorio native, ~1k hours. It’s been really fun to see the drastically different approaches to things, in terms of designing a factory game. Factorio will always be my true love, but every time I play Satisfactory I find myself just oogling the beauty of the game. The sense of scale is overwhelming, the 3d aspect gets rid of a lot of restrictions that I’m accustomed to and makes building a factory feel more like art than I ever thought it could be.

Satisfactory is also a much younger game than Factorio, so I’m excited to see how it matures. I really love the early access update experience.

  • He decided he had to make it someone else’s problem by needing to be let in, instead of simply affecting only himself (and you unfortunately). Bad decisions on my part should never be imposed on anyone else. And if more others behaved that way, we’d all have less problems.

We don’t need a sorry horn. We in the states need a significantly higher barrier to people getting and keeping a license. Cars are a privilege not a right and people should be reminded of that.

  • I feel you but let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater. I have personally seen the radical positive change that can occur with people experiencing a new culture. They could have changed without it yes, but would they have? The cultural experience provides a valuable catalyst for change.

And I am with you on air travel - horribly polluting and we should eliminate it as a form of pleasure travel, limited to necessities. But trains are great for travel! I think getting out of your own cultural zone can be really important for some people.

I do think travel being limited by wealth is a problem to be tackled, via all workers having the right to take a yearly vacation (whether they travel or stay home) and fair compensation that allows people to cover life’s expenses and still build a savings.

Cross species introduction is hard and I really don’t know what to do there, and i know it’s vitally important from dealing with some invasive species where i’m at. Part of me wants to say stricter punishments and fines for people who violate, but then that depends on the inspection aspect. And I hate the idea of giving even more power to any government today. Maybe travel not being allowed between specific areas that have species with potential to cross-interact, but that would be insane to figure out in the first place and then keep it up-to-date. The more I think about it, the harder it is to solve.

Maybe you are right, though I really wish there was some way for travel to be completely ethical. But maybe that’s not universally possible.
