  • There are problems with that metric. One of them is that a lot of really rich people that hold local power just excuse themselves by claiming that they’re not billionaires. Estate owners are a good example. Many hold ownership over vast lands and contribute to people not having access to agricultural land, housing, etc. They’re mostly not billionaires, but are a key part in our oppressive system. Yet, the metric put them in the ok group

Focusing on such metric can give room for wrong solutions, like reducing globalization, which would limit how much money a corporation can amass. It would mathematically reduce inequality, but wouldn’t change our living standards, and wouldn’t give us access to better things, like housing, healthcare, etc. Yet, in terms of metrics, we would have achieved our objective

  • They would form almost-billionaires consortia and spread the money to not cross the threshold. People just created a metric to blame, because it’s easy, but the actual problems are our societal structures and our culture. If we don’t change that, nothing will really change. I’m from a country where there are very few billionaires. If they all popped, nothing would change, because our oppressors aren’t billionaires, but the oppressing structures around here are pretty much the same as in the usa

  • Come on, look at our recent history. Look at what happened to Dilma. Look at our congress and senate composition. There’s not much room to make many improvements. We’re stuck fighting against right-wing domination and total control by the US, like in Argentina. The far right has already won this election. They have the majority in our government. We are just trying to elect Lula to limit their power. this also happened in the past elections. No one recognizes the work from the ones who avoid bad things from happening, and people are being very unfair to lula. take for example the recent policy of using petrobras to hold the fuel prices internally. Many places around us are facing crisis and prices are skyrocketing due to the war, but brazil is almost untouched. And even though the congress is against him, he pushed laws to reduce work hours, prohibit online gambling, reduce taxes on the poorer, remove taxes from medications, and others. Many people who are bashing him today only had access to education through his politics of expanding federal institutes, many people have access to healthcare through the expansion of “UPAs”, many people don’t have to pay rent because they had access to “minha casa, minha vida”, etc and lots of etc. People take full advangate of his policies, but will bash him nonetheless.

Lula is no Biden, and this comparison is really unfair, if not uninformed
