  • In an un-fucking-believable move, the Americans stopped sharing intelligence and disabled Starlink’s military services, rendering Ukraine completely defenseless against Russian ballistic missiles just prior to a major attack.

This coming shortly after the US essentially negated its economic sanctions on Russian diesel and once again pressured Kyiv to unilaterally cease its attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, even as Russia ramps up their own attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Trump is now publically aiding the Russians in their aggression against Ukraine and Europe

  • The point I’m trying to make isn’t about sexualization of women in and off itself. Woman have the right to celebrate their sexuality and there’s plenty of nutjobs that still haven’t come to terms with the sexual revolution.

But what I’m referring to is the hypersexualization of women present in things like adverts, music or film. Prior to the MeToo movement you couldn’t walk a block without spotting an highly revealing or highly suggestive advert of a woman.

Back in the sixtees, the sexualization of women served to promote ideas about the sexual revolution, bodily autonomy and reproductive rights. But decades of commercialization have reduced these ideas simply to “sex sells”.

The thing that makes the hypersexualization of women degrading imo is that it reduces women to a subject of lust, while deflecting any criticism under the pretends that women should be free to express their sexuality.

  • Yeah, except its not going to lower prices.

Trump consistently makes the error of thinking he can influence US oil prices. He can’t, the oil prices are set globally. The only thing that could possibly lower oil prices is to either restore global supply or subsidize oil.

America doesn’t have a shortage of fuel. But if Trump were to ban the export of oil regardless, then oil prices would rise significantly, followed shortly after by even more inflation and supply chain disruptions.

Its literally one of the dumbest things he could do, and he’s threatening to do it just weeks ahead of the elections that might already cost him his presidency.

Maybe we should just let him go ahead and do it. Between this and two more years of Trump-just-doing-crazy-shit, an oil supply disruption is probably the better option, if it helps to get his dumb-ass on a leash.

  • I think at least part of it is a backlash against the proliferation of pornography (its shocking just how prolific and how degrading porn actually is compared to the ‘good ‘ol days’). A lot of youngsters were first confronted with porn as children through their smartphones.

But a lot of it also has to do with changing attitudes towards woman and sexuality. We’ve had corporations marketing woman and teen girls as sex objects for decades now, but we now also have an increase of violence against woman and we have the manosphere and far-right extremists campaigning against basic woman’s rights like abortion, equal pay and whatnot.

So I guess the real question is, are more people taking offense of nudity because of their conservative beliefs? Or are more people viewing nudity in popular media as a means of sexualizing (and thus degrading) women?

  • That was true 70 years ago, but today Germany is a country with an aging population, outdated industry and infrastructure, few remaining natural resources, strong cultural and historic ties with Russia and a populace that leans heavily into pacifism. Military adventurism just isn’t in the cards, regardless who wins the elections.

I’ll even argue that to remain passive in the face of injustice isn’t at all moral or ethical. We are already at war. The enemy just hasn’t reached the German border yet.

While Germans drag their feet, discussing matters of military support, re-armament and deterrence, more and more Ukrainians are left dead from Russian missiles and drones. Germany’s ethics are paid for in blood by Ukrainian men, woman and children.

  • Russia actually invading a NATO state is not a likely scenario, but minor incursions are. Not responding to those will fracture NATO and invite even more Russian aggression, with the ultimate goal of wrestling territory from the Baltics.

But here’s the catch: its not just the Baltics that are at risk. The Baltic states are also EU member states. If Russia manages to succesfully confront and annex EU member states, then it will massively impact things like the value of the Euro, the credibility and stability of EU institutions, freedom of travel et cetera.

Even right-wing governments will be forced respond. So we’ll still end up fighting a war with Russia, only from a considerably worse poisition then if we continue re-arming Europe and supporting Ukraine.
