World News@lemmy.world•People of Burkina Faso should forget about democracy, says military rulerEnglish
31·7 months agoA Marxist once came to power in Burkina Faso, campaigning on slogans such as “we must choose between wine for a few, or clean drinking water for all.”

They killed him.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Should we potentially create a Harry Potter Instance?English
4·7 months agoIf you want to.
I think it makes sense to follow the Star Trek instance and just have local communities centered around Harry Potter while allowing federation with everything else.

2·7 months agoI of course wish AOC would go further and she’s not perfect, but I won’t let perfect be the enemy of the good in this situation.
It’s good that she’s saying this.

41·7 months agoToday, I will remind them.
It really puts into perspective the importance of supporting free software. Even after Valve goes to shit, their contributions to the ecosystem will live on.
It’s why the average sheep can never see the value in free software; it keeps them dependent on corporations.

Ye Power Trippin' Bastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Calling out Hitler Defenders will get you banned on Lemmy Shitpost
23·7 months agoI don’t think either of you should have been banned.
Hopefully we can get more communities and instances that allow open discussion instead of trying to dictate what people are allowed to say, see, and think.

Ye Power Trippin' Bastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Banned from 20 communities, no explaination
61·7 months agoThere are some crazy power-tripping mods that will ban you for posting things in other communities.
This just creates more demand for communities and instances that don’t do that.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?
29·7 months agoEasily the US.
China is too oppressive and Japan is too racist.
Every good programmer was once part of the crowd that you’re looking down on.
I don’t really think programming knowledge matters all that much anymore considering AI can hold your hand every step of the way.
What’s more important is being able to pick the right technologies and string them together to get a working product.

Pretty much everything ‘new’ is a scam these days.
Unless you’re really involved, it’s best to wait awhile and jump onboard only after the guinea pigs have proven its worth.
