I would, too, but I have to admit it’s pretty impressive what a phone can do these days. That kind of processing power just hanging out in our pockets. It would have taken my first PC years to do that.

politics @lemmy.world•White House airs another government-funded ad, this time with Trump warning of ‘final battle’
21·4 days agoThe Republicans in Congress could stop all of this at any time. They choose not to. They support it, even if they say otherwise.
Trump will be Trump, but we need to direct our anger at the rest of his party as well, for not holding him accountable. I hope enough people realize this in November.
Lol mugs.
This must be my wife’s mug.
I’ve gotten pretty good at cleaning them.

12·8 days agoThe app is showing them, not the fediverse.
The Wii Fit game (I forget the actual name) let you enter your pets and track their weight. Then they’d sometimes show up and run beside you while you were running or cycling around the island. It was a great touch.
I can’t fire it up to look. Our tabby that passed away in 2020 is probably still on there, as is our gray and white cat, who is not doing well - we’re at the “keeping him comfortable” stage. (He’s okay for now, he’s still a happy cat, but he probably only has a few months left.)
I’m just old enough that one of my high school teachers had a giant slide rule mounted at the top of the chalkboard. He was as quick with that as we were with our calculators.
He did show us how to use it, but we never practiced.

2·18 days agoIn what way is Android more open? (Serious question, because I’m really not clear on how.)
SMB: I haven’t used a recent version of MacOS, but we were able to do it pretty easily on my wife’s 2017ish MacBook, which we just replaced because Apple wasn’t supporting it any more. But I do use SMB on my Android tablet (and occasionally phone) to access my Linux server. Is that possible on ios?

81·18 days agoThe Google garden has its own walls now, doesn’t it? Aren’t they preventing side loading of apps now (or soon)? I’m not sure what other walls do or don’t exist at this point.
I have an Android phone, and I like Android better than Apple, but these days I’m struggling to see much difference between the two brands.
I wonder why someone downvoted your comment.
Yeah, if I were suddenly single again, I’d be like, eh, I’m good. I know a few single women, so who knows there, but beyond that I’d just be like, yeaahhhhhh I’m just gonna keep living.
lol I loved reading them, never replied to any.
You got other more informative responses, but he definitely had a battery powered one first. The Super Soaker put it to shame though, in terms of volume of water delivered per unit of time.
This reminds me of the time when my brother introduced me to battery powered water guns. I had no idea such a thing existed (Super Soakers followed shortly after). It was no match for my puny squirt gun.

My god you’re an ass. I’m just going to block you so I don’t have to see your insane takes and bad comics.
Well I also think there’s something to be said for the sheer uselessness of it - not only CAN it do it, it’s not a major drain on battery life or anything.
Also, my first computer was an IBM PCjr, so my comment stands - transcribing audio would have taken that blazing 4.77 MHz processor a large amount of time. 128 KB of RAM, baby - we had the upgrade sidecar. 360KB floppy disk! 16 color CGA graphics, but since few games were programmed with that in mind, it was really four color!
