  • You need a pilots license to fly an airplane at all. To fly in less than optimal conditions (ie fog) you need an IFR endorsement. You can get other endorsements like sea place, multi engine, high powered, etc.

To fly for payment at all you need a commercial pilots license. To fly a consumer airline, you need an ATP endorsement.

Depending on what type of license you have (private, commercial, ATP), you need pass a certain class of medical exam. Your license also dictates how often your medical needs to be renewed.

To achieve a PPL ( in the US) you need to pass a checkride and a written exam. You also need to pass a check ride for your instrument endorsement. I have no idea if you need to pass a written exam for a CPL, but you definitely need a check ride for that. And your ATP.

You also need to pass an annual mechanical inspection for your personal plane. For commercial it’s ever X hours ( I think it’s 1000?). No idea for ATP

Beyond that, you can lose the ability to fly your plane if the FAA or manufacturer identifies a defect in your plane and you have yet to get it fixed by the required procedure.

Did I mention it’s 40 hours flight hours minimum for a PPL and 1500 for ATP?

Oh and there are preflight checklists to verify that your plane is in working order BEFORE flight.

Thats all to say, flying is much much more stringent than riding a motorcycle.

Sure there’s a big difference between 40 and 1500 hours, but no matter how you slice it, there are greater pains to making sure flying is safer than driving

  • I…. can’t do Sanders. His supporters rub me the wrong way the way Clinton’s did. Like it’s really hard for me to take a step towards considering a candidate if instead of helping me form an informed decision, I get trashed or called names for even considering someone else (first time I voted I did third party, Clinton voters called me sexist even though I voted for a woman).

AOC, Warren seem more clinical in their approach than Sanders.

Biden, Harris, Clinton all suffer from the same ailment: “it’s my turn so vote for me”.

I do like AOC too, but she’s not a perfect match for my views like Warren seems to be

  • You’re clearly wrong. The answer is Arch

OK, but seriously. There are two main general use families:

    Debian based and redhat based

Pick something that has a DE out of the box. Use it. The big ones used to be GNOME and KDE. I dont know which one is more recommended now.

Find equivalent programs (ie. Notepad -> gedit, adobe pdf reader -> evince).

Figure out the windows start menu equivalent: how do I access my programs?

Maybe six months to a year later, learn how to use a terminal emulator.

Maybe a year later, switch to arch and find out why it’s superior

  • I mean, the Overton window is skewed heavily.

I’m not sure what you mean by social safety nets. If you mean stuff like unemployment, nobody should lose the right to be alive because you lose your job.

I thought UBI was pretty stupid the first time I heard about it. But the way it was explained to me, it sounds okay: you get enough for like a 100sqft apartment and enough money for bread and milk. That’s it. It’s only enough to keep you alive. If you want other things, get a job.

The big issue is just that the free market can’t work unless everyone is on an even playing field. That means, we can’t rely on corporations for health care. That means you should be able to refuse to work and not die as a negotiating tactic. For me, none of that is politics. That’s all BEFORE we start to discuss politics.

Like, the government is supposed to work for the people.

My parents are from a different culture, so my conservatism may differ a bit.

I hate paying taxes, but I am aware of what they are for. Trickle down is a scam, and we need to remove loopholes before reevaluating if our system works or not.

In other words, I want to be Elizabeth Warren - a former Republican. Work within the system if you can. If you find that the system is broken in some places, fix it.

  • I read the wiki description and I’m not sure.

I believe the government should work for the people. If I could remake everything, I would aim for a free market with an emphasis on consumer protection. I’d make it so that you can’t discriminate based on age, race, sex, or gender.

I would not emphasize my right to do things, I would emphasize “am I infringing on other people’s rights?

In my world, gasoline cars wouldn’t be going extinct. Rather, car companies would be making enthusiast cars. We would all live in human-centric areas, with service and or delivery vehicles allowed. There would be a public racetrack like the Nurburgring.

The public transportation would come frequently and on time. I would connect advantaged and disadvantaged neighborhoods for better opportunity. Also, there would be a route from every major city in a state to the state capitol and every state capitol to DC.

Universal health care would be a thing. If you want paid health care, go ahead. Doesn’t exempt you from participating in the public good.

Conservatives and liberals, in my world, wouldn’t argue about the goals - they would argue on how to achieve them. No more “climate change isn’t real”.

We would pay cops good money. We would hire studied people who can make good decisions. No more “I thought he had a gun so I shot”. You would get paid more for being able to make important decisions and you would also be held accountable.

I would get rid of Citizens United. Why does Musk have more free speech than me? Fines would be made a percentage of your net worth.

Like, this is mostly all getting us all on the same playing field.

Then you’d see me arguing that weed is banned because it’s a drug. BUT when they get sent to prison, it would be about rehabilitation and not punishment.

    What would you call me?
