Fediverse@lemmy.world•Fediverse Challenge: Prove there's still good in the worldEnglish
111·9 months agoI’ve been mulling this stuff over.
I think going fedi (and open source) is like hitting rock bottom/finding jesus/starting therapy. All we can do is try and remove the stigma.
Yeah, all the doomerism is pulling me down, too. My best solution so far is to not interact. Not even a downvote. Contrarianism and acute cynisism need feedback to thrive, and the bastards ain’t getting any more of my blood!

24·9 months agoNot really, no.
While central Europe and the Balkans still clearly have Russia’s hooks in 'em, most of the population is firmly for the EU (i.e. the West). This couldn’t have happened if Russian soft power did not suffer horrendously at the split of the USSR.
Just take some ayahuasca.

25·9 months agoThis is so good that I got bothered that there was no source. I found a comic from over ten years ago, with the same theme, but more simpler graphics. It turned out Jake Likes Onions did an updated version of their original comic in 2019 and didn’t add their watermark for some reason.
Anyway, as you were.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Looks legit. What do you all think?
1·10 months agoWhile I fully agree with you, I don’t really fret the masses being manipulated. It’s shitty and scary, but time immemorial we’ve been sewing these threads among each other. In a pretty recent post someone outlined that any time there is a new form of communication, we get a pretty big wave of manipulation (printing press --> reforming the catholic church / broadcast TV --> 2. World War). We got this current batch of Brexiteers and Trumpists because the internet makes for amazing echochambers. This will just be an escalation of that (yeah, not as reassuring as I’d hoped it would be).
I’m more worried about me being (mis-)led by my nose. I think I’m losing my edge.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Looks legit. What do you all think?
6·10 months agoYeah, my sloppy-sense was through the roof, too. The best I can relay what is putting me off, is the ‘discreetness’ of it. Almost like every pixel was specifically painted. Lighting and focus are also super weird.
But yeah, I think we’re getting past the point where I can tell.

67·10 months agoOh, the horror. DDG is only better because it’s not the big G, otherwise it returns the same nonesense search optimized slop. If your data is not important, russian site yandex gives different hits (def better for the high seas). There’s also a paid websearch (forgot the name) that seems legit.
Internet is dead.

Even for free? Epic is giving it away. Just make sure to get the Heroic launcher.
So, this is basically how they retconned Jet into an ensign.
He was first introduced as a lieutenant with two pips, and the second picture OP posted is basically saying that it was actually just delicious street corn on his collar, not a second pip.
I hope this cleared things up.

Games@lemmy.world•Best "screwing around" Game RequestEnglish
1·10 months agoIt seems you gave it a fighting chance! During my first playthrough, I went with the easier version of not needing food or water. There is a moment in there, when you have to go way down to get some resources, which can be tough if you’re not fully immersed.
I don’t want to send you back in there, cuz 15-30h gameplay is plenty enough to get to know the game, it just scratched my itch for wanting to discover a world so well (which I believe is what you crave), it’s hard to accept that it’s not for everyone. Hope you find something swell! Maybe that Detroit comes alive stuff? I never played, but that seems gta-like.

0·10 months agoHave you played Subnautica yet?
What I took away from your writing is that you like the freeworld aspect, and Subnautica has plenty to fuck around with. It has a main story line, but the game is so good, you can kinda forget about it and just build your underwater palace. No stealibg cars or planes, but you can craft pretty amazing vehicles and ‘fly around’ underwater with them.
I think you’d enjoy it.
