I ran a couple of cables for the highest priority stuff, but I’m using MoCA for the rest and it’s been great. Even for game streaming I’ve not noticed a difference, though I don’t play any fast-paced FPS games these days.

Technology@lemmy.world•Stop bringing your phone in the shower: How steam can ruin 'waterproof' phonesEnglish
61·27 days agoI read my daily web fiction in the shower while I wake up. My iPhone 10 is still going strong after all these years of steam. Hell, it’s been dropped several times.
Yeah it’s a little weird, but we’ve all gotta cope in this world

111·28 days agoDon’t proper biometrics also lock you to a device? My phone isn’t sending my fingerprint anywhere, it’s comparing data against its baseline and then attesting that. If you did it any other way, then any data leak means you’re exposed literally forever.

World News@lemmy.world•Brazil President bans online gamblingEnglish
36·28 days agoI think adding that barrier to entry, as well as taking an official stance against the practice, goes far enough without having to be draconian about it.
People are going to find ways around anything.
I’d imagine this will come alongside banning the advertisement of online gambling as well, which might be even more effective than the ban itself.

11·1 month agoI wish there was a quicker toggle for tolls. I frequently do a drive that would take an extra 3-4 hours without tolls, so having to switch it on and off is a pain.

163·2 months agoI think that’s exactly what was meant, though. Taking only this screenshot into account, that’s not French culture, that’s French caricature. Are there other aspects that more genuinely express more subtle aspects of French life and history? Genuinely asking
I’m about to start a job with unlimited PTO and I’m honestly unsure. I had 3 weeks at my last place. I’d like more, but at least I never felt judged using what I was allotted. They also never denied a request.
“Unlimited” feels like a trap. But I guess I’m doing that to myself? Idk, I’m probably gonna aim for 3ish weeks for my first year and see how it feels.

4·2 months agoMost pager systems are actually huge privacy violations. $20 for a software defined radio dongle and a few minutes will give you plaintext pager notifications for hospitals across your state.
Did a project on it when I was breaking into cybersecurity.
There are encrypted paging setups, but there’s a lot of places still running legacy.

I had a realization lately that the last season didn’t just ruin GoT for me. I think it subconsciously ruined TV. I’ve not gotten invested in a non-comedy series since then.
