  • i can’t think of a recent, decent game that screamed more “this is for girls” than this one. yes, there is stardew, which isn’t particularly gendered, even if it tends to attract more women than other games, and the less good, uh, homages to it, like the disney princess one (not sure i would call that decent, tbh). and there has always been the sims. facebook and mobile games have always had a large, often predominantly female audience, but most of those are very cheap. and world of warcraft cuts pretty well across gender lines.

but this one is so overtly about traditionally women’s hobbies and it’s also really good. that makes it rare to me.

and you know who doesn’t have to wade? people who like call of duty, madden/2k/whatever, etc. while a lot of men don’t like those games either, it’s hard to argue that their fan base isn’t primarily men and that they are marketed exclusively towards men. there is a lot of that stuff. the rest of us have to wade. women have to wade harder.

proportion is what’s important, and women are vastly under-represented.

  • my first loaves looked a lot like this. this is underproved, which is why you have that big gas bubble at the top (overproved can look similar sometimes, but will have a shaggy crumb). even if it seems to be taking forever you gotta let it prove until its done.

i’ve had proofs go 12 hours or more, especially on cold days. it’s nerve-wracking sometimes. but, in the worst case, if it overproves too much, just make focaccia.

    hth!

eta: young starters can take a long time to prove, as well. so the more mature your starter gets, the easier this becomes. when my starters are strong, they’ll treble in size in like 4-6 hours, and that’s when i bake with them. my starters are also quite old at this point, since they were born during the covid lockdowns (the starter baby boom).

  • nah, it’s been like this for years. i’m like 99% certain its because either their geo-ip tables don’t accomodate the ipv6 range, or, like in the case of netflix, hurricane electric blocks are marked as vpns.

but i appreciate the call to paranoia. it lets me know i’m among my people
