Plastic production has doubled since 2000 and less than 10% gets recycled. The oil industry is actively poisoning the planet for quarterly profits. There is no solution besides ending mass plastic production, but that seems like a nonstarter. Just another neverending global disaster to be conveniently ignored.

I read Tatham Mound when I was 12, and it kind of blew my mind. I wouldn’t say it was appropriate at that age, but I also don’t think it did any harm. The violence was explicit, and there were numerous sex scenes, but they were placed in a cultural context.

Colorado voters passed this law ending involuntary labor as a form of state punishment in 2022. I think it’s disgusting that that it has taken this long. Democracy shouldn’t take that many years.

Even if there were enough hours in the day to keep up, most people have other things they have to do. Especially considering that just knowing about things isn’t really helping the situation.
