  • It comes down to assuming that just because two things have the same unit and “magnitude” they must be equal/fungible. Some things are. People are not. Days are often not. But this sort of oversimplification is everywhere in corporate thought. People being paid tons of money to assume you get the same output from an experienced employee and one who just finished training.

  • It varies dramatically for different types of wine, even within the broad categories (red, white, rosé, etc.). Some wines are grapier and will be reminiscent of juice you’ve had. Others are further away from that. Invariably they will taste different if you’ve never had wine before, even moreso if you’ve not had alcohol.

If you are interested in wine for the experience, I’d recommend situations where it’s well-paired with food. The best wine I’ve ever drank has been with good food that complemented it.

  • We do! What’s really helpful is many products of the same category are in different units. One will be per sheet, one per roll, one per 100 sheets, one per 500 sheets… and then the true thickness is completely different, so 1 ply for one brand will hold up ok while another will start disintegrating the moment you pull it off the roll. Do you feel free yet?

  • I agree. The author presents a thesis that Democrats have tracked left, and then presents two issues where they have (abortion, job guarantees), one issue where they have returned to where they were in 1990 and the working class has tracked right (healthcare), and then just an identity question (liberal) which is not actually an issue. It’s far from a comprehensive data analysis.

The author misses out on a huge area where Democrats (and the left in general) have consistently gotten worse at: communication and persuasion. Part of this is the failure of the Democrats to identify, push, and promote charismatic candidates (find a single human being who feels more excited about left ideas after hearing Pelosi, Jeffries, or Schumer talk). The other big part is the concentration of media power in fewer organizations and more ideologically right owners. Even more, the party of the young whiffed on social media entirely which could have lessened the impact of the latter part.
