Ask@piefed.social•What's a relatively mundane task you've seen someone perform with professional 10k hr smoothness and precision?English
16·22 hours agoI had the great good fortune to be hosted by an ex professional French chef in his B&B back in the day. The stay included one dinner, and I offered to help with the preparation. Now, I thought I was a decent enough cook, but watching this guy buzz around the kitchen, working on three different dishes simultaneously while holding a conversation was something else entirely.
Two words: knife skills.
I politely disagree. Given the metric fuckton of books it ingested in training, I find it hard to believe that it cannot produce something “in the style of” that would pass most cursory examinations.
As for my grammar, I believe that sentence fragments are an acceptable stylistic device when creating emphasis, at least in more informal settings. I would say comment sections qualify, wouldn’t you agree?
I have invested years of my life to learn how to spell, use proper grammar, structure my sentences and make a cogent point. Which is why I shall henceforth strive to insert a random motherfucking profanity in as many of my comments as I reasonably can.

1133·9 days agoI’m just here to bring to your attention Lev Grossman’s “The Magicians”, both the books and the assorted TV show, which is quite awesome in its own right, even if it diverges from the books by quite a bit. There’s a whole world of awesome outside of HP, and even if it wasn’t, I refuse to recast in my theater of the mind the extremely talented and deeply regretted Alan Rickman and Dame Maggie Smith.

1·2 months agoTotally agree.
Like I said elsewhere, my reaction was too flippant, and that’s on me. I tend to ignore the preachy types wherever I run into them, and headphones are my golden standard on flights…

45·2 months agoMaybe I was a bit flippant in my reply. If I was presented with this situation for real, I’m pretty sure I would find it annoying on principle. When running into such people in public spaces, one has the option to walk away. In public transport, especially long haul… not so much.
On the other hand, I did fly with crying kids and noisy adults in close proximity, and the headphones worked a treat. With music added, of course.
