Damn, I got here too late, I wanted to make this reference too!

News@lemmy.world•Poll: Two-thirds of Americans say ICE has 'gone too far' in immigration enforcement
2·8 months agoPerhaps a dumb question, but I’m not from the U.S, so a genuine question here: Why might the Superbowl be a way for a lot of Americans to learn about ICE?

World News@lemmy.world•Spain, Greece weigh teen social media bans, drawing fury from Elon MuskEnglish
211·8 months agoElon Musk being against the social media ban on under 16-year-olds is him basically reaching a good conclusion from the wrong equation, because he’s not doing it out of privacy concerns about how everyone would probably have to verify themselves to prove that they’re older than 16 years old. He’s doing it because it would not be good for his business.
I’m not sure how they could implement this without requiring ID verification on every single internet user. I guess I’m not familiar with the topic enough to say if there is another way that they could pursue, but even if there is, at the same time, I’m not too confident in the governments opting for the other options. I’m from neither Spain nor Greece, so I guess I can’t speak on this, but I’m just referring to governments as a general group. And because a lot of different countries are trying to do this at the same time, I’m also not too confident about my own country not doing this at some point, sooner or later.
Honestly, even if time travel were theoretically possible to be invented, there’s also a high chance that we’re just going to destroy ourselves before we get to that point anyway.

Technology@lemmy.world•Is Wikipedia's Volunteer Model Facing a Generational Crisis?English
5·8 months agoI feel like this will end up being a cycle. The AI companies are pushing for AI summaries, which then leads to younger Gen Z and the new Gen Alpha being familiar with and preferring AI summaries. This, in turn, leads to other companies implementing AI summaries because they see that’s what the new generations are using, which leads to the new generations being even more accustomed to those summaries, which leads to more companies implementing them, and it’s just an endless cycle.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Here's the most played games on Steam Deck for January 2026
1·8 months agoNot sure how to make sense of the first one, but as for the second one, it seems like they forgot to type a word. Add “on” right before “Valve’s handheld”, and that sentence makes sense now.

4·8 months agoI’m probably applying too much logic here which Reddit admins don’t seem to like, but… how can defending oneself if something happens (not even preemptively, but after the fact) be threatening violence, while Trump repeatedly saying they’re gonna own Greenland one way or another is not threatening violence?

1·8 months agoDonating is great, sure, and they’re probably more likely to stick around if they paid, but just because someone isn’t donating doesn’t mean they won’t be active in the comments or by making posts. Not to mention they might spread the word to friends, some of whom might donate.

3·8 months agoWoah, I haven’t heard about this. Are those temp bans on specific subreddits or a site-wide ban for not being pro-Trump?

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft is working to rebuild trust in WindowsEnglish
1·8 months ago“That was a typo, we meant it’s gonna be the last Windows you’ll ever want, not need” -Microsoft probably.
This is why I cannot dislike the 67 meme. I don’t actively like it or anything but we have our own funny number and there were 42 as well and 21 for a while.
There are definitely things to criticize about the new generation, I am not denying that, but finding a number amusing is too inoffensive for me to care.

Greentext@sh.itjust.works•Anon wants to talk about video games
3·8 months agoI’ve been playing EU4 since around 2018-2019 (on and off, to be fair, not consistently), and still don’t know a lot of stuff about the game.
It probably doesn’t help that I’m playing it on and off because I keep having to relearn things I used to know.

Greentext@sh.itjust.works•Anon wants to talk about video games
6·8 months ago“Damn, Conversations suck since the latest update, they changed the entire gameplay”, except they were just playing it wrong the entire time and the update just patched a bug.

What’s the point then? I pay for a game that I’m not even playing just so, what, my numbers of “completed” games goes up?
I’m someone who likes seeing the stats go up as I watch anime. But I do it naturally and over time. This AI idea is like if I were to start an anime, put it on auto-play while I sleep, and when I wake up it’ll be done, without me seeing a single scene.
