I just wrote a comment about a very similar setup! Glad I wasn’t the only one haha

I used to have a Ryzen 2700X based system as a server. At the time (no clue if it’s still an issue), there was a bug in the interaction between early Ryzen chips and Linux that caused the OS to lock up intermittently. I used a ATmega32u4 board to connect to the reset switch on the PC and as a USB device with a systemd unit that sends a ping to the board every 30 seconds. If the board doesn’t see a ping for a minute, it reboots the PC. It was janky as hell, but it worked for 2+ years!

I check every 6 months or so to see if there is something coming out that would be a worthwhile upgrade for either, and I’ve been surprised that even the 9800X3D isn’t that much better than the 5800X3D, and would be bottle-necked by the GPU in the vast majority of games, and that there simply hasn’t been a single (non-Nvidia) GPU announced that is clear step up from the 7900XTX.

5800X3D and 7900XTX and have seen no compelling reason to upgrade.

I haven’t checked on KDE Bigscreen or Waydroid TV in a few months. Have you tested them? I tried both after the big Bigscreen update last year and it wasn’t ready yet. As soon as it’s ready, I’m taking the motherboard out of my framework laptop and replacing my Shield with it.

people put too much “lab” and not enough “home” in homelab. we need more dust, more cables, more jank. love this.

only if the data gets sent. it’s doesn’t have to be.

ostensibly, there is no need to send your location anywhere, as everything could be set up to be done client-side where you get a registry of published instance locations and sort them by distance to your current location.

Doesn’t look like it

That was awesome
They’ve been a lot of fun!

Only people who are okay with being monsters are allowed to take and keep those roles. That’s capitalism, baby.

I think you answered your own question. To expect them to do anything other than what will increase their wealth is naïve. Anything that seemed like a “moral” thing that they did in the past simply happened to be more convenient.

I don’t do code reviews on vibecoded projects. It’s a waste of time.

Another vibecode slop project.

Pretty sure the “CET” in the title is for Central European Time

Also, it’s illegal to send encrypted messages over mestastic.
In the US at least, this is almost never true. It is only true for devices set up as licensed HAM radios. Normal Meshtastic devices fall under the transmit power threshold to be subject to 47 CFR 97.313(j)
I don’t know about “most”. It hasn’t been an option on any of the consumer motherboards I’ve used in my homelab.
