Bittorrent is a file sharing protocol, which isn’t inherently dangerous. The ‘torrent’ contains the information that’s being passed around to allow connectivity to that particular file. This is also not inherently dangerous as that information is very specific and limited… and doesn’t allow any other user to browse the rest of your computer.
What may be dangerous is downloading a file that contains malware or viruses via a torrent. Use reputable sites and keep your security software up to date. Better yet, use a different computer for this activity with a vpn.
Thank you. Even if they pass something it will be written by a bureaucratic bean counter and will be riddled with loopholes.
Simply don’t allow loans on stocks. Keep it simple.
I believe bystanders got some vid too.
Back in 1988 I had a school project with a few people, one of whom came from a wealthy family. The project was regarding the stock market, and each team was given a certain amount of imaginary money to invest, to see who would win out at the end of the semester. My friend with the wealthy family came back with a recommendation from his father, of course, and we won the contest easily.
The recommendation? Put all our funds into Berkshire Hathaway.
I had the golden goose egg right in front of me and never invested a dime.
I don’t think this post said anything about ‘The Game’ backfiring.
It specifically calls out that streamers spoke about exactly what they didn’t want spoken. That’s what the Streisand Effect is.
Congratulations to Game Science for a good game, but it’s business as usual for the C-Suite being completely disconnected to how the social world works.
There’s two types of oil, essentially and I don’t remember what they are called. When oil was easy to get we built refineries for that kind. When it got scarce you could only get the other kind.
The US in its infinite wisdom decided it was too expensive to build refineries for the new kind, so what we’ve been doing is sending the oil we pump to other countries who can refine it, then import the kind we can refine.
Why do you think he strongarmed Teslas shareholders into that big pay day? He’s known this was coming, y’all. Tesla’s just paying for his misadventure.
My father says the same thing about the slim margin of oil companies. That being said, when that slim margin is in the billions and millions of people suffer for it, there’s room for inquiry.
Sooo… is Meta going to scrub all that information from their system or did Texas just basically ‘sell’ our info to them for 1.4 billion?
I can’t really describe to you how angry I was when that shit went through. Like… I knew it was ridiculous to get so angry but, I LOVED THAT FREAKING APP.
I’ve told everyone I meet that it really no longer matters how you feel about the 2nd amendment. You are entitled to your opinion, but you need to go learn how to use them, full stop.
This was my recent problem in Texas. Was also throwing the breaker on the reg.
Most of hacking is done by mass effort with maybe a couple percent of people that aren’t doing basic things to protect themselves being affected. That couple of percent is enough to keep the hackers flush. (So please, follow basic cybersecurity steps, people.)
The plain truth of the matter, though, is that if a hacker or group of hackers is targeting someone individually for reasons, that person is in real trouble.
This has been a PSA for everyone chasing fame and clout.
Agreed 100%, but to be fair I knew which way the wind was blowing with this game back before release when they made that horrible yaw change to keep pvp ‘engaging’.
The whole legs thing would have been a nice to have, though. Not being able to just stand up out of my chair was immersion breaking. Once upon a time I jumped through a whole lotta hoops to get it working with my VR headset and NGL, I cried when I drove my rover on Mars. It was that gorgeous. What struck me most was physically looking over my shoulder and seeing the tires of it kicking up dirt and leaving that telltale track on a world where nobody had ever been.
Then I realized I could never leave a bootprint. I think the worst punch to the gut with the space legs thing was not being able to do VR with it afterward. Like…wtf, there’s just a very clear disconnect between what direction the ED devs took the game versus what the players wanted.
I love how media is slowly moving away from “RTO is bullshit” to “It has some benefits but they’re taking it too far”. Next week it will be “What were we thinking? RTO is here to stay!”
As so many people have said, there’s plenty of jobs where this isn’t necessary at all. The conversation needs to stay focused on the flawed conceptions of corporate suits in an echo-chamber.
Oh gosh yes! It’s popularity has dropped a bit since OWI’s little stunt, but you should check it out on Fridays when we try and get the OG’s to come back and show us how to kill some BUGS.

NGL I’m still a little salty at OWI only making the Extermination game after the Troopers Mod for Squad took off so hard. No credit to the hard work on that mod that rekindled the interest at all.
