I’ve been using OpenCode with whateverthefuck free models they have listed on there and they all seem to do fine with agentic tasks like building me scripts or executables to make my work tasks easier.

I used Gemini at the start with “Frontier Knowledge” and it seemed to do worse than the ones listed on OpenCode, but maybe that’s because i could only do like three prompts a week since I refuse to pay into an AI.

end of the day, its just LLMs writing code for me, but I cannot see how this would be useful for a large scale code base, but also #NotAProgrammer.

I agree, its a tool. I have used free models for the last few weeks to make python scripts into portable exes to help streamline some onsite job activities that normally are done multiple times a month. I never would have the time to research how to code python, figure out libraries and such to put together, and then compile all that into an exe. You’ll never see me spend money on AI when the free models work well enough not needing “frontier” features.

So life if I wanted to download all the TEXT from the site now (obviously media like images and such will ballon to size) how much we talking…? Internet articles vary between 20Gb and 418TB…

Agreed, $3.6mil doesn’t seem like that much to fix infrastructure problems (see cost of updating the US power grid estimates), but you know who also doesn’t think $3.6mil isn’t that much? Billionaires. Such a small denomination of money to people like that.

I didn’t realize HDDs are taking a hit now… I’m moving overseas and opted to move my sever with me instead of rebuilding since ram alone is close to 1k now. I didn’t price HDDs at the time cause they are only 4 years old… Sure hope they hold on for another few years…
