The tram tracks are notoriously dangerous for bikers. Always, always go orthogonal to them, never in parallel. Unless you like shooting off your bike when it’s momentum suddenly stops.

The lanes are usually segregated between trams and autos.

Also, taxis are allowed to drive directly on the tram tracks here.

I saw this in the paper today and was really freaked out: I wandered off task at work on Wikipedia yesterday and was reading about the Aral Sea drying up …and the weapons labs there.

Different region, but still creeped me out all The Stand style.

I don’t understand why you would want this - can you explain? Genuinely curious what the benefits would be.

We truly are the new invisible generation. I have an ultra specialized job in a hyper specialized field, but if I lost this job there are less than 20 companies in the entire world who could hire me. And why hire me when you can get a Millennial or Zoomer to do it for 2/3 my cost? They won’t be as good or have as wide a network, but they will be good enough .

And I say this as a man actively training my number 1 to take over the departments I run eventually.

N=1 and all, but my son was quite capable of explaining, clearly and in detail, his inner life at three. He’s on the spectrum and highly intelligent, so that may make him an outlier.

(Both sons did fall for me calling saffron “monkey fur” well into grade school though.)

I don’t know about the day of, because I was downtown in NYC. I didn’t get home to the Bronx until about ten at night.

But I was on Metafilter and a couple of other fora. But these were already mostly asshole free places, so few dicks or tolls as per OP.

The whole day - hell the next two weeks - updates of news and speculation about the ratfuckery this would cause dominated the chat/posts.

What I hate the most is, unless I have seen the meme in the before times, I always, always wonder if it’s Gen-AI crap.

There is one going on in this very thread.

Several people keep referring to the “Democrat” party instead of the “Democratic” party.

Shortening it to Democrat was a Rethuglican tactic that, rhetorically, eliminates the idea the party is linked to the ideal rather than just a label.

Don’t beat yourself up too much over it. It’s easier to see with hindsight, and at the time you had other priorities which were just as valid to you at the moment.

I hope you find the peace and balance you are looking for. Please know that I think most people here really appreciated hearing about your whacky antics; they often brought a bit of sunshine to an otherwise dull day.
