I question how many comics you have read then since many of these characters were created as anti-fascist figures. Captain America, Superman, and The X-Men for example were all vocally against fascism, bigotry, racism, and more.

Captain America for instance has a history of being in opposition to his government on issues around civil rights. He has always been an icon of anti-fascism.

Of course non-media literate people and just people who only know the character from posters and t shirts see the stars and stripes and think he’s simply a “patriotic” hero.

As far as whether it would “work” in reality, well I think that is beside the point. These are about fantasy, myth making and legends. They are not supposed to be real. They explore ideas around what makes a hero with layers of fantasy and unreality that make the stories unpractical for our real world and to dismiss the idea they explore because of that misses the point of the art. But…

The moral questions that would arise if they were to exist the real world have also been handled really well by the comic book medium, books like The Watchmen, Rising Stars, V for Vendetta, Miracleman (pretty much anything by Alan Moore tbh), and more.

Comics and superheroes are modern day myth making, and the value of that shouldn’t be dismissed. Captain America, Spider-Man, The X-Men and more have inspired generations to view altruistic acts and things to be admired and aspired to. And the value of that should not be underestimated.

Revolution happens by taking over the system, organizing, bringing people together. Selling the ideas of the movement.

How do you imagine it? A small armed group of insurrectionists by bitter leftists that refuse to do the actual work of democracy. Democracy is people organizing from the bottom not accepting the system and sitting on the sidelines waiting for a socialist to be running for president.

lol. How do you think the people who run do it?!!! Yes they raise money. But you don’t have to start at running for president either. Start local. Find your local elections and support the most progressive candidates in the primary. Those are just locals, just like you. They raise money from donations. And yes you could be one of them.

People act like the Democratic party isn’t just people. The leadership are mostly people who started locally and worked their way up. If more progressive people ran and more were involved it making sure they got elected then the Democratic party would be forced to move to the left.

You don’t seem to understand democracy IMO. If you want the Democrats to have better candidates then work to get them elected in primaries. If you don’t think the primary candidates are good enough, find someone to run in them or run yourself.

If you sit on the sidelines until the last stage of the process and just bitch about the results of the process, you are just part of the problem.

Also this isn’t corporate backing, this was cynical rainbow capitalism trying to market off the back of a movement. They were not funding protests or the movement in anyway and they were not contributing to people going to protests, Those protests were grass roots and a visceral reaction to the racism of the Trump administration and years of police violence towards people of colour.

His other points are pretty on point though, fatigue and the media ignoring the protests that do exist is part of the problem for sure. Also a lot of protests back then were promoted and organized through Twitter and Tik Tok and they have been very successful in suppressing both of those.
