No backups? Maybe I can understand not having full duplicates due to the cost, but surely it was on a system with at least snapshots in place or something right??

I wouldn’t call solar inverters sold with remote monitoring being ‘backdoored’.

Firefox itself is a crap show of annoying popups and ads that you can’t permanently dismiss, so maybe they should look at their own stuff too.

Only having “Not now” as a way to reject it is very scummy IMO.
Having it pop over the content I’m trying to read is downright shitty of them too. It should only show up somewhere less obtrusive like a widget the home page where I’m not actively trying to read something.

Sorta, then ESPHome updates or something and everything breaks until fixes are made. It’s certainly a lot more knowledge required to set up and manage them than most people have or care to learn about just for some smart devices.

Downside is the apps need internet/network access to control the smart home devices.
I run pretty much all ESPHome or Tasmota devices since there’s no app required, and it’s all LAN based communication. But the complexity is certainly very high for those compared to off the shelf stuff.

I’ve always felt like the apps stuffed full of telemetry that have access to a lot of data on my phone are the most concerning part. It’s annoying too that the devices themselves phone home.
(please include date + location).
It’s wild how often people leave this info off entirely, or just “the blue house on main st.” like I somehow know where that is!

Yeah I just need to reinstall at some point, maybe try another distro.

Nope this 100% Linux machine and partitions.

That one gives me crazy digestive issues, I’m always checking if it’s in the ingredients now.

It can be, but I never really run into any issues. Part of it is I’m more familiar with windows than linux I’m sure.
My linux desktop experience hasn’t been as good, I run it on my laptop since that’s more just a web browsing device than anything and it’s not critical if it breaks. The last 2 times I’ve updated Fedora it has broken the bootloader and that took me quite awhile to fix, I can’t figure out why it keeps happening as it’s a really standard install and doesn’t make any sense.
I also still can’t get HW acceleration working in any browsers, flatpak or directly installed, which has been extremely frustrating since I’ve never had to do anything on windows for it to work. There are no clear guides with one fix either, and it’s not something I should have to be fixing myself, it should work out of the box.

That takes a few minutes, it’s not like Linux doesn’t have stuff I’ve gotta spend time to fix too.

Majority yeah but the stuff that doesn’t work can be a serious time sink to fix.

Has it occurred to you that it’s not a tiny change for a lot of people?

It’s a bother but it can be limited somewhat via toggles and DNS blocking.
Not all of us just use our computers as a hobby, I don’t have the time to figure out Linux and make things run in wine or proton, and fixing things that break from updating that software is annoying.

Hardware prices are wild! And for me at least I’m just having fun playing my usual games like minecraft, arma, and other stuff that came out years ago, so not any reason to buy new stuff.

More just saying that I’ve never had a nextcloud instance perform well, regardless of where or how it’s hosted.
Yes, typing randomly isn’t actually as random as it could be, so a generator will do a better job.
However mashing the keyboard is absolutely better than literally just “4” lol
