  • Are you upset when you step on a rock?

Well that’s really beside the point isn’t it? My question was whether I could be upset about two things, not if I should be.

Be upset for the AI, but don’t you dare put in the same sentence as genocide.

Well the article doesn’t mention genocide or Israel/Palestine, and neither did I. So I’m pretty sure it was just you putting it in the same sentence.

My question was more a critique of a common comment on social media. It’s frequently gets upvoted to the top just like yours was, and I never understand why. “Oh you’re mad about X, well you should be mad about this extremely loosely related thing!!!” It happens in so many threads and usually has almost nothing to do with what the article is about. I just don’t understand…

  • Billionaires do give a fuck. They just don’t give a fuck about anyone but themselves, and maybe close family/friends to some extent.

If I were to hazard a guess I’d guess billionaires fall into 3 camps regarding climate change. Those that still don’t believe in it or that their will be any consequences. They are probably in the minority of billionaires (I do believe most of them believe climate change is real at this point, but their unbridled greed won’t allow them to admit it in public).

Then you’ve got the billionaires who do believe in climate change split into 2 more camps. Those that are so old that they predict they won’t live long enough to see the large scale consequences effect them, and thus don’t care. Finally, those that are young, but believe they can save themselves, without having to help save the world. Those are the billionaires building underground bunkers and compounds. Planning to ride it out from their private utopias.

  • “There are more people that die in Europe from heat deaths than people that die from gun deaths in America. Why aren’t you writing an article about air conditioning?” asked Musk.

“Well, we’ve done several on air conditioning, and we had on our cover last week a whole long piece about…” said Beddoes.

    “Pro-air conditioning?” Musk asked sheepishly.

“Very pro-air conditioning,” she responded. “You should read us sometime.”

It’s kind of the perfect moment. Musk throws out some meaningless gotcha and then asks why the media isn’t talking about something that he’s become hyperfocused on. In his ignorance, he demonstrates they actually are writing about the thing he cares about. And he just looks like an idiot.

I especially liked this part. The video of this exchange is even better! He thinks he’s sooooo smart with these middle school level retorts…
