I used to do this constantly but I had to break myself out of the habit. On long drives, I’d forget I would have passengers and blurt out half a sentence before realizing.
It also led my step mother to try and convince my dad I was schizophrenic at the time since I would do it in the house as well when I thought no one was around.
Mildly annoying since it was just an easy way to think things through, I never saw it as a bad habit.

They should definitely respect the licenses, that being said, Microsoft owns GitHub and can be a bit quick in what they ban. It also means they are beholden to US laws, which could turn anti FOSS-AI in the near future.

All models are very costly regardless of open source or closed source, but I’m not sure any current model reaches that high. The 100$ million seems to only applies to the cost of computing and not of buying the actual cards.
The legislation is essentially asking that it can’t make nukes or do massive hacking attacking and only asking it of people that definitely have the money to make sure.

Llama took 2 600 mWh to train over 6 months and can run on much less than what’s needed for gaming. ActivisionBlizzard used 86 000 mWh of energy in 2022 for both the datacenters for their games and the development of them. Yet no one in their right mind would suggest to curb stomp gaming to save on energy.
Openai has bigger costs but they run inference, and having them run it actually makes it more efficient, even though I rather open source models you can run on your own machine.
The clear solution is upgrading to a more robust green energy grid, not blocking innovation.
And if we are going to ban things because of their energy use, there are much better candidates than software. A transatlantic flight takes up 500 mWh, so essentially 1000 people flying to Europe and back use up as much energy as the llama model took to train, a model that has been downloaded 3.5 million times in the past month alone on hugging face (only with the official 8b included, and not counting the other sizes or the thousands of finetunes).
It’s already for that. It happens only rarely and I doubt any were available for parole. That being said, it’s so rare we could just do without. 2022 had 18 people executed, we are already a hairsbreath away from not doing it so why bother.
My guess is out of all the people that have the power to orchestrate someone’s legal death, a select few actively get off on it and push for it.

Connect it to cheap mini computer or a raspberry Pi. There’s other streaming devices available but they usually cost the same as the other two options I mentioned and the cheaper ones are also filled with ads.
I’d rather have a full-blown computer anyways and there are ways to have it act more like a tv with a remote but still keep all the functionality if you need it.

And just like other shady companies like Walmart and Amazon, they should be regulated to death, or something. But not defended and treated like some gold furred lamb. Everytime a post pops up, dozens jump over themselves making excuses for Gaben.
Replace steam with Amazon and reread the thread and my point of view might be better understood. They just have a better pr team and realized they could leverage Foss to save on OS dev costs.
You were saying it didn’t affect you. Regardless of how much will go directly to shareholders, a good portion will be reinvested and lead to better games, which will affect your enjoyment.

It’s affecting you because of a loss of quality in the product you are receiving, a loss directly caused by greedy middle men you are here defending.
The amount of companies being taxed by Gaben, Microsoft and Sony is vaste and not many of them would just take the 30% and run. There’s a lot of indie and medium sized companies that are barely making it.
You can plug your ears all you want, it is affecting you and you are boot licking for pretending it isn’t. Gaben isn’t your friend even though he probably spends a lot of money trying to make you think he is.
Contracts aren’t invalidated because conflicting info is available somewhere else.
