Where’s the == operator? Because they also have the exact same problem.

Lost the Iran war in a week, didn’t he?

I can only talk about software developers, but there it’s fucking pants on head to fire developers. It only makes sense if you don’t have any competitors.
More than 50% of software projects fail either because they run over time or over budgetl, but for obvious reason both. So you get this tool that increase your output, let’s say 10x. Does that mean that you can fire 9/10 developers? What does your competitors do? If they retain their developers they can smoke your company in months.
It’s a racket. Most people would be better off if they just saved the money they spend on insurance. But you can’t really know that up front which is the entire point. Instead the state should offer insurance as a public service without any kind of profit incentive. OR we could live in a society where it’s not required at all, but that’s a lot further off.
US right wing libertarians. Though libertarianism is infantile to begin with, the US right wing version is even worse.
Free market just doesn’t work. It should be plainly obvious to anyone, but apparently IT FUCKING ISN’T. The reason for price increase lately is because most markeds have matured into oligopolies or just straight up monopolies, even when it’s not really obvious. There’s like 5 companies that make ALL THE FOOD in supermarkets. If you look at candy there’s 2 or 3 different producers disguised under different brand names.
Tech is the absolute worst when it comes to this. Nvidia has a straight up monopoly, and if the US government wasn’t corrupt pieces of shit, that literally made bribes legal, they would have anti-trusted them at least a decade ago. Intel was running a FUCKING RACKET for years without any intervention, and when they did get a slap on the wrist the damage was done. FUCKING MICROSOFT. And despite changing their tune the last 10-15 years with the open source work they still fucking suck. Google is manipulating their monopoly situation both on web browsers (Chromium), Search and with Android (they recently made a change that makes it so that you can’t install “untrusted” software even though there’s absolutely zero indication that this is an actual security issue).
The hard thing is to INFORM PEOPLE that the system is rigged, because the people that rigged it is also in control of the information flow.

Guy who allegedly sexually assaulted his sister says something profoundly stupid.
Insurance is also fucking stupid, and should absolutely be a public service rather than for-profit private enterprise.

I write C# and Python, and C# is much more expressive than Python is and performs about 10x to 77x better. C# has much better pattern matching and has operators to deal with null and support for it in the type system. C# records can be serialized without issue (Python’s built in JSON serializer can only serialize dictionaries). Althoigh variable scoping in C# isn’t perfect (object patterns in if statements pollute the outer scope) variables at least aren’t just function scoped like in Python. You can define user defined primitve types in C# which enables bettrr support for domain typing than what is possible in Python.

I think his point was that Python is more useful for one-off stuff and I’d claim that much better than bash at those kinds of things.
But Python has so many quirks and bad designs. Function scoped variables, multiple inheritance, backwards comprehension syntax, poor pattern matching, poor handling of None and so much is convention based so you don’t get an error if you did it wrong. Python classes aren’t serializable (not even data classes).
Coupled with it’s awful performance I’m convinced the reason people use it is because they don’t know anything else.

I think it’s the right call. The issue with CPython’s JIT is that it isn’t really a true JIT like you would find in Java or .NET and suffers from the same issue that auto vectorization did in C++: you had to understand the internals of the CPython runtime to properly utilize it which isn’t a great developer experience.

Every business laptop I’ve had the last 10 years or so has had a touch screen and it’s pointless. The only times I click anything is when I try to adjust the screen.
Yeah, the fact that so much of the language is conventions as well doesn’t help. The type hinting is fairly poor as well, but then again type hinting is basically admitting that dynamic typing is a mistake (which it is).
Despite combat being better and more polished in Andromeda than it was in the trilogy Mass Effect, Andromeda felt like a fan-fiction adaptation of Mass Effect. It did not feel like it was made by the same people. I feel like tying that game into Mass Effect was a mistake.
Yeah, Python as a language is a mess IMO. We used it for making a electrical simulator and the language is…bad. The variable scoping, lack of explicit variable declaration, backwards comprehension syntax, the VERY CONFUSING object orientation design, that classes aren’t serializable by default, package story and deployment… It really has very little going for it, and combine all that with the awful performance characteristics it’s just…no.
Today I’m “Rust if it fits, if not Rust then C#”. We re-wrote the simulator in C# and performance was 70x better and the code got shorter, the deployment was hell of a lot easier since we went AOT and it just builds a native binary for the target platform. No virtual environment crap.

This is ArtCraft we’re talking about, right? The “Adobe” thing is just marketing. It’s just a bunch of AI tools sewn together.

What angers me is that people are buying into the AI shit that the companies are peddlings. These aren’t sentient machines with a will of their own or even any mechanism to do anything on their own. These shit-heels are taking a text generator, trained on doing all sorts of shit, and piping its results into a bash-shell. If you just don’t do that they can’t do any of the damage they did in OpenAI’s case. They try to make it look like they’re figuratively breaking out of a cage or jail. That’s not what’s happening.
They’re given every tool they need and then they add clumsy and inefficient filters on the output text they’re writing. It’s negligent incompetence.
But they do this for a reason. They want legislation to stop what they’re doing. OpenAI specifically does not have an avenue currently where they end up making money, so they want everyone to stop training new models so that they can focus on making a positive cash flow rather than competing.
People need to stop eating the bullshit these companies are shovelling. Yes, if you write an application that breaks into the pentagon you’re looking at jailtime. If you host a LLM that does the same thing it’s the exact same issue. If it did break in then you weren’t paying attention (i.e. being negligent). It’s not a complicated problem.
Spotify now has ads on Premium when listening to podcasts. It’s infuriating and frankly insulting. Podcasts are cheap as dirt to make compared to music.
I think I’ll cancel Spotify.

What the fuck. Is this real?
Presidential pardons is such a fucking stupid concept. It runs straight into the face of separating the executive from judicial.
