Stanley Tweedle is a god
A warrior and a gent.
We are not fit to suck his feet
Or dine on his excrement.
At night we croon
By the light of a moon
Of his courage and his creed.
Hey ho there he goes
Oh woe for his foes
Long live the Tweedle seed.
Stanley, Stanley
Top of the hero class
Stanley, Stanley
We live to Kiss his Ass!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does the microwave have a "popcorn" button when every microwave popcorn brand says "DO NOT USE THE POPCORN BUTTON"?English
3·2 days agoI switched to stove top loose kernels but that was due to the 2010’s PFAS scare with microwave popcorn bags. USA banned it so Costco/Kirkland should be safe.
Canada is still lagging behind a little so I’d look for PFAS-free labelling here.
That’s still full of AI, the filter quality you can see for yourself without an account for a limited amount of searches. If I search an image and the URLs on slop I see in the results with the slop filter enabled that literally contains keywords related to AI slop and KAGI doesn’t filter them out…well, I draw conclusions.
Gives me flashbacks to Goldsrc dedicated server operators sending eject CD or Play CD commands to clients which was possible for some reason.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is Kratom? A friend of the family just died today. And that was the last thing he was using. Is it like K2? What type of high is it?English
91·6 days agoMetta Beshar is a decent drug user/educator who has ADHD and went over his own addiction and widthdrawal in his video here:
Mind you it’s a combined video where he tries 7-OH as well. Not everyone wants to watch a video so here’s a chopped up cliff notes transcript:
Metta presents Kratom’s American story as an “ethnobotany 101” case study. Every time a culture meets a new substance it has no experience with, it goes through a chaotic phase of not knowing how to use it in a responsible manner. Going from raw leaf to a powder, to extracts, and now 7-OH pills which are getting banned all over.
Metta is still on and off user and doesn’t want to quit outright. He just dialed usage back. He describes Kratom withdrawal symptoms as runny nose, body aches, and insomnia like a less severe opioid-type withdrawal and says it’s “not as scary as a lot of people think” but that it depends on how deep and how long you were in. Tolerance creep he describes as starting at 2–3g → 6g → 8g before dialing it back after 4-5 years. Some people get dangerous with it and go up to 28g or even 50g/day. He also described the typical experience I’ve had with chemically addictive substances where you constantly find reasons to “treat” yourself as a reward for doing something.
His active user experience:
- Onset takes about an hour.
- Very relaxed, “sense of peace”
- Aches and pains greatly reduced. He likes to take it after martial arts training.
- Feels like a “warm comfort blanket,” almost like cuddling someone you care about
- Subtle overall, no noticeable change to his mental processes
- Sedating, ready for bed
The active compound in Kratom is called Mitragynin which is a partial mu-opioid agonist. You get the opioid feel (relaxation, mild euphoria, pain relief) but with a built-in ceiling so it stays mellow.
Nothing like K2, Don, since OP asked.
Besides some compatbility misses, it’s less confusing than Windows is with AutoHDR too now I think. Combined with KDE adding more HDR spec stuff in 6.8, pretty solid experience on Linux at this point. mpv HDR is working with version 0.41.
I just want Firefox HDR now.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do "pirates" go about getting their username uploaded with a torrent? Like Fitgirl or NoSteam or something? How do they become big and famous? Can the average joe do this?English
2·10 days agoConsistently uploading stuff and then posting to piracy forums at first, until enough people know you’re not interested in spreading malware and then word of mouth spreads about your wesbite. You’ve made it when there’s a bunch of fake websites pretending to be you to spread malware and the USA starts trying to ruin your life.
Blizzard’s voice chat is broken under Proton/WINE, it doesn’t matter what front end or method you use. It’s not specific to Faugus. Be nice if Blizzard cared but they don’t.
Edit: Check this out, not merged yet but fresh fixes for BNet via Bottles soon ™. Couldn’t tell you if this will be superior to Faugus method or not since I don’t use Battle.net.

but my gaming time is increasingly taken up by futzing with the gaming in the hopes of playing instead of playing,
You can’t skip the learning curve, sorry. It was hard to wrap my head around compatibility layer quirks and prefixes at first but now I’m proficient a year later using CachyOS as a daily driver and I’m even modding games again, usually via Amethyst Mod Manager and CurseForge. Once you understand Linux folder structures it gets easier.
I tried Nobara early on but the perf differences between it and most popular distros is negligible despite the hype and then a bad update bricked my install, so I don’t have a positive impression of Glorious Eggroll’s side project. Solo dev distro isn’t viable IMO.
Some people online say adding sapi.dll to your BNet prefix via winetricks works but it’s mixed results. May or may not work. Ehhh find a guide for using winetricks. It’s a clunky piece of shit, not gonna lie. It’s “GUI” barely masks that it’s a command line utility. Like usually I need to click CANCEL on the first menu it pops up which is usually fucking useless in order for the menu I actually want to appear next, but it’s unintuitive because a beginner is going to obviously think that closes Winetricks. Nope! Very dumb. It’s easy to access via Faugus since it’s an option in the settings menu when you right click any game you’ve added to it. You’ll need to learn how eventually if you ever pirate stuff because dependencies like .net or visual c++ will be missing without manually installing them via winetricks. Winetricks downloads/installs that shit for you btw you don’t need to hunt down the Windows executables yourself or sapi.dll in this case. Although you can run other executables under the game’s prefix, again, in the same settings menu where you’ll find winetricks button in Faugus.
If you’re wondering wtf a prefix is, it’s basically a Windows folder structure in a folder specific to that game. Your AppData/My Documents whatever. Your save files and config files go there like they would on Windows, but also dll files and other Windows specific crap. Which annoys me actually so I use the same prefix for every non-Steam game so I don’t need to piss about with multiple prefixes and installing storage space wasting duplicate dependencies and fresh prefixes per game. It’s pretty stupid default behaviour IMO but it probably helps devs troubleshoot compatibility layer bug reports when users don’t have 40 games all using the same prefix folder idk…I just point Faugus to the same prefix folder I made every time instead of letting it make a new one per game.
Steam doesn’t give you any option regarding that so it just makes a user unfriendly folder per game using the Steam ID jumble of numbers (which you can find via SteamDB, although I just sort by recently modified after installing a game if I need to snoop in there for some reason) as the folder name for game prefix folders in Steam’s compatdata folder. Really pisses me off they don’t just use the fucking name of the game same as it is in steamapps/common where all the games are installed by default or let me use the same prefix as an option within Steam /rant.
The actual game files aren’t inside the prefix folder.
Also when you run Windows stuff via Proton/WINE and need to browse to a location outside of the prefix, your Linux home folder is labeled as Drive X. Like say I run something that patches the game executable for a mod or whatever, but my game folder isn’t inside the prefix obviously so your actual Linux storage drive is given the drive letter “X” by Proton/WINE while the Windows program thinks the prefix folder is your C: drive / Local Disk. If that makes sense.
Idk hopefully that helps or I confused you more lol?

Maybe it’s a federation bug? Idk. I don’t remember what their home instance was to verify.
Miisha posted all last night/early morning and then poof account deleted, hope they’re okay.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•I share a network with my roommates. How can I pirate without risking action against them?English
6·13 days agoYou don’t need a VPN (yet, c-22, different reasons) in Canada. Look up our copyright law. Fines are capped so low that it’s malicious compliance on behalf of our government. It’s so low that it’s not worth taking you to court and they cannot sue per item like they can in USA, only for everything at once. Nobody gets sued in reality for piracy in Canada unless they are profiting off of their piracy by selling pirated material. Or web hosts. Basically, don’t be the owner of Demonoid or sell hard drives full of game ROMs on eBay and you’ll be okay.
What you need to actually consider is your ISP. Don’t use any of the major telecom mafia corps directly like Rogers, Telus, Shaw, Bell, etc. They’ll have strike systems and refuse service potentially. They have conflict of interest running streaming sites, making their own TV shows and such. Use pro end user/net neutrality supporting reseller ISP like Oxio and Teksavvy for example. They exist, just look. Park Power is another local to me. Research your local options.
You’ll still get sp00ky copyright infringement letters from 'muricans forwarded to you. Don’t respond, reseller ISP don’t care either. Print them out on toilet paper and wipe your ass with them.
I keep them like trophies. I have 36 infringement emails from Comedy Central from torrenting South Park episodes alone over the years, lmao. Those are all old since I use Debrid for TV/Movies for a long time now. DDL FTW.
They’re used to being an ml tankie responding to everyone on their .world outreach comm then deleting the all the wrong think comments they’re replying to.
How the turntables.
When I got Implantable Collamer Lens placed in my eyeballs and I talked to the doc afterwards for follow up appointments and after care apparently. I had a moment of memory loss and forgot even talking to him at all afterwards. By all accounts I behaved sober. Lucky I took my mother with me or I wouldn’t have known anything lol. She mentioned something he said in passing and I drew a complete blank the next day.
