Joe Rogan is a piece of shit and I’d die happy if I never heard his name again
She’ll forever be Dolly Patorn to me
No you are misremembering, it was Kit Harrington.
I’m convinced Ned Zinger is a robot
The first time I heard it was a VCR repairman turning a screw for $100.
The story goes:
The huge printing presses of a major Chicago newspaper began malfunctioning on the Saturday before Christmas, putting all the revenue for advertising that was to appear in the Sunday paper in jeopardy. None of the technicians could track down the problem. Finally, a frantic call was made to the retired printer who had worked with these presses for over 40 years. “We’ll pay anything; just come in and fix them,” he was told.
When he arrived, he walked around for a few minutes, surveying the presses; then he approached one of the control panels and opened it. He removed a dime from his pocket, turned a screw 1/4 of a turn, and said, “The presses will now work correctly.” After being profusely thanked, he was told to submit a bill for his work.
The bill arrived a few days later, for $10,000.00! Not wanting to pay such a huge amount for so little work, the printer was told to please itemize his charges, with the hope that he would reduce the amount once he had to identify his services. The revised bill arrived: $1.00 for turning the screw; $9,999.00 for knowing which screw to turn.

Creepy Wikipedia@lemmy.world•Sick leave in the United StatesEnglish
4·3 months agoMy wife suddenly became gravely ill about 2 years ago. If not for paid sick leave allowing me to care for her and help her recovery after hospitalization we may have ended up homeless, or her dead. Living in a state with paid sick leave requirement is excellent.

41·3 months agoListen to yourself. Have a large team of trained staff on call. How much do you think that costs? No go on guess. Do some calculations. The people do not exist to fill the seats. The money does not exist to pay the non-existent people. This is an attempt to make an already shitty situation better.
I work in this industry and I read the article. I understand what they are doing. I hate AI but this seems reasonable.

82·3 months agoHow many operators to handle say 100 calls in 5 minutes? Now imagine the cost to staff a small 911 center to ensure your can handle those calls 24/7. The money doesn’t exist.
Butts in seats don’t exist right now either. As long as the fancy ivr allows the caller to reach a human with minimal effort, this seems like a scary sounding but neat
assistantsolution to a problem without a real solution.
Get the $50 pills next time. Worth it.
