  • As someone who cannot read either language, I normally go by the rule of thumb that if it has a lot of curves it is probably Japanese, otherwise I assume it is Chinese. If we can throw Korean into the mix then I just need to see one circle and that’s how I determine if it is or not. It’s not a perfect system, but I would surmise that I can guess the language well above half of the time.

Also aren’t the characters for Chinese shared across all spoken versions, if so, why did you specify Mandarin instead of just saying Chinese?

  • You can read your student code, most of them do not have anything that compels you to use the services that are provided. If that is the case, refuse to use the service and make your position known, they’ll generally give you a workaround or if they say that’s how it is, you can ask for the part of the student code with the nonexistent objective reason why you must use it.

If you don’t want to be a squeaky wheel, there are technical ways of limiting the information loss, but the easiest is to not install anything and be conscious of what location, network, & device you use

  • These studies generally take a high level approach, but coming from a technical side I fail to see where the grid forming generators will come from: wind & solar cannot be grid forming, I don’t think there is enough water to maintain a stable grid. The only way I can see the renewable only setup working in the near future is to change transmission to DC, which has much larger technical limitations than a few nuclear plants. I skimmed the PDF, I didn’t see anything addressing that issue, if I missed it please point me in its direction.
