FYI, most non-US citizens of Lemmy wants US citizens to fight and die to secure the marginally better rights they have but didn’t have to fight for because it was won by their ancestors who were weighting them against must grimer fates. They know they wouldn’t risk death in the same situation. However, they think we are stupid enough to get bullied into it by them.
They will also do exactly nothing to help and will provide no useful suggestions. If it is any consolation, the US is large and influencial enough that we will all go down together.
I’m not defending it, but I can explain it, since it was the same strategy used in drug development in the early to mid 2000’s.
Essentially, you have labor costs on your financial reports.
- If you have a blockbuster product, layoffs improve your financials even more.
- Poor product? Layoffs make your financials not look terrible.
- Work productivity goes up too much (unit of work measured / hours of labor)? Well, that means you can do layoffs because you don’t need productivity that high. Plus, at least initially it will look even better since you lowered the denominator.
- Terrible productivity? Layoffs make it look better quickly.
Why the fuck would anyone do this? Because individuals are held accountable to quarterly financials instead of long term success. You can only “hold off the wolves” so long before the leader either gets forced to do layouts, quits, or is fires. Companies that are privately owned don’t have the same pressure though. Of interest, employee owned companies are also much better, but often take on a terrible work life balance culture due to massive peer pressure without oversight. So even though the “easy” solution is to have employee owned work environments with no management, even that can lead to toxicity.
I would love to agree, but I think this falls into hindsight being 20/20.
For myself, I eat meat. However, I can easily imagine a world where that would be considered ethically horrible. I believe it was punishable by death in Japan for like 1000 years in the past. However, I was raised to eat meat, and honestly don’t see a problem with it. I’m sure I would feel different if raised differently.
When we say “I would hold my same morals regardless,” I think we may be giving ourselves too much credit… Or not giving enough credit to those who lived in the past.
Don’t focus on quantity, focus on quality.
So if the squirt is not pee, but is coming from the bladder, where is it coming from prior to the bladder? Because, if it’s the kidneys, then it’s kinda pee. If it’s not, the. That would be interesting.

23·3 months agoIt’s kind of like how Canada has systematically killed indigenous people. I’m sure plenty of people don’t/didn’t like it, but it still happens through systematic neglect and violence of that group. The US was able to utilize systematically racism to a much broader scale, and is now using it to push through fascism.
I mean, California lost gun rights under a conservative government that wanted to disarm blacks. But the country still thinks that liberals made it happen… Somehow…
Regardless, it is our country, it is our problem, but it will fuck us all. So any useful advice would be appreciated, rather than just try harder.

21·3 months agoWas the punishment of Germany for WWI not at all relevant. Not the refusal of most other nations to take in Jews when Germany tried to ship them away not relevant either?
If you were to ask me it, I would have suggested to not abjectly punish an entire nation for the actions of aristocrats and not close international boarders to refugees due to discrimination against a minority group as factors that outside nations can do.
Alternatively, Germany did need… outside intervention…

42·3 months agoThe US has utilized systemic racism to train it’s population from childhood to hate and fear each other. We aren’t able to work together because we have been programmed not to.
So, how would I organize a general strike with fascists who believe the current process is great, or are in such a compromised position (by design) that striking could literally kill them?
Your advice is like telling someone who is homeless to get a job.
Based on your argument, it’s not your job to do anything. Agreed. Hate and don’t support the US… That might help change opinions. If you want us to continue to resist… Yeah, plenty of people do and have. But telling people to essentially kill themselves because “it’s the right thing to do” is kinda some bullshit. About 40% of our nations population are hateful fascists. This is an issue that has built up over generations. Its going to take a lot more thank just trying to organize a general strike to fix it.

95·3 months agoI know this is just a joke, but art should have a difficulty slider when possible if it will require active participation by the audience. Otherwise, it is just excluding people and essentially gatekeeping. Even art house movies and have subtitles, and music is often translated to text or sign.
Your comment countering their statement literally supports it.
I thought the reason people side with Depp is because there are recordings of Heard mocking him for reporting abuse and admitting to hitting him, that he initiated the split, and that she gave an op-ed that suggested he was the sole abuser.
Typically there is a primary abuser and often a retaliatory abuser. What is in question is which is which. The concern is that people who side with Depp often do so because of their own beliefs in women being toxic. However, people who side with Heard do essentially the same. I don’t believe a clear picture of Depp being primarily abuser has been established, but would be interested if you had that information.
Edit: also, I’m not on either of their sides. That’s one of those situations where I look at it and slowly back away. I’ll leave it to people who actually know them/have more information.

11·3 months agoNo one asked you to. Stop worrying about us politics and worry about your own country. I just found out most of Europe is burning up in a heatwave. And that shit sucks. Maybe look into that. Or don’t.

12·3 months agoHe has ICE arresting “illegal aliens,” that’s being protested. ICE has killed protesters, that is also getting protested. The issue is that bastardization of our education system has lead to a large amount of the population believing that ICE is doing the right thing. Because they are racists. We aren’t fighting Rump or his administration, we are fighting an increasing in size radical white national group within the US.
Europe is also racist. It’s just that the people have learned that it is better to side with each other than the aristocrats. The US built its entire image on not having aristocrats while that group consolidated power and pinned the population into racial infighting to prevent notice. Are problems are different
Also, if you are in Europe then you have your own problems. When I look in to it there is always all kinds of fucked up shit. US citizens just don’t care because we are up our own ass. I would say you care because you are up our ass too, but the US probably has a military base in your country or an adjacent country. And you or that country probably fucking like it. If we are so bad, so far gone, fight that. You are commenting on us getting fucked and we are literallyinside most of Europe. Fight that you self-righteous cowards. If you did, it would make it easier for us to fight in our country. But you won’t because your fucking scare.

71·3 months agoNo, protests could (and should) have happened earlier. They also have.
The No Kings protests occurred but caused little social changes. Given that the US doesn’t have the same social support system of other countries, it is difficult for most people to protest for an extended time without essentially destroying their own life.
Due to rampant racism, the Black Lives Matter protests simply resulted in most white people taking personal offense instead of actually comprehending the systematic bias US society has against blacks and minorities.
Occupy Wallstreet lasted pretty long, but was co-opted by fringe social movement groups and homeless plants by police. And that happened during the presidency of everyone’s favorite Dep president darling, Obama.
My point is that protesting right now, during an election period, instead of just fucking voting doesn’t make much sense given that US society has very clearly marched to this point with everyone aware.
Afterwards, when the system clearly doesn’t work, and/if we are still fascist, sure let’s fucking riot.
With regard to the “coward” comment. If you aren’t in the US, you likely don’t have the same social political, economic, or societal factors in place so you can’t really judge.
Also, more crudely, if other countries had got off sucking US dick decades ago, it would have removed US soft power, wealth, and resources, and allowed internal social movements to have more weight. As example, we wouldn’t be able to amass such a large military if other countries hadn’t allowed the US to be their police. So, kindly fuck off and fix you own damn problems so we can do the same, though probably slower because of you cowardly enabling fucks.

96·3 months agoEdit: I’m clearly going to get down voted into oblivion, but that doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that if you are a US citizen, protest AFTER the upcoming election if you are going to do it. Especially if you are in a “red” state We need to remove as much of the veneer of legitimate as possible from this administration. If you protest now, there is a risk your vote gets removed. Don’t listen to dumb fucks from other countries who have no concept of the social issues of the US. They don’t even understand the moral, economic, and social issues around tipping. Their opinions are invalid. VOTE. It probably won’t work, but we can always protest etc. After. This act now right before midterms bs is just ignorance or psy-ops.
Original post below: He’s doing this to create civil unrest so he can declare martial law. You are suggesting people take action that aids that goal.
Wow, you are very wrong. The landlord simply does a pipe check and clean out after changing tenants, this proves it was you… You know… Legally. That is pretty standard practice. After that, the plumber assesses the cause of the clog. Based on the assessment, misuse can be determined. You have a right to your option, but legal proceedings are independent of your opinion.
But good luck with that approach, and cheers if it has worked so far.
Just… Just don’t walk in the center of every walkway.

I agree and endorse this statement and those who disagree… Can do so of course, who the fuck cares?
