Its kinda dumb imo
It’s not a “feature”, it’s just the server being slow.
I have some that have been like that for almost a week.
I had a couple that got stuck, I was able to retry the sub and they went right through.
I’ll give that a shot.
I have set up my own instance today and it has quite a lot of issues. It’s been running all day. I did notice that all the communities I subscribed to were stuck to “Subscribe Pending”. More importantly, federation only retrieved a fraction of the content from the communities I subbed to. I saw that most posts, comments and activity from remote communities are not visible from my instance, as can be confirmed by comparing my local view to what you see directly connected to their host instance.
To try things out, I made a single local community and posted a single post. It mostly worked OK, but for one of the local user of my instance, the post simply doesn’t show up; the community is empty from his point of view.
Lemmy is still quite buggy, but I like it a lot and can’t wait for it to get better.
It’s a visual bug. You are actually subscribed and posts should be showing in your feed just fine.
Hopefully this is one of the things the impending update sorts out.
