You should probably open it up and actually fix the problem, rather than this band aid solution. It probably just needs new thermal paste on the heatsink(s). (Or needs heatsinks added in the first place.)

Sounds like I’ll have to put in an additional couple thermal pads to bridge the gap to heatsink as they don’t actually touch, but need to read more about it.
