My local library. I get books, eBooks, audiobooks, movies, tv shows, music and games from there. While I’m there they provide free water, wifi, power outlets, ac/heating and a public living room with comfortable armchairs. All that for like 50 bucks a year.
Local libraries are great!
Received the new jolla phone 2 during october and loving it so far. Is it perfect? No. Is it for everyone? No. But its refreshig to own a phone that feels like you own it instead of being a product.
Bought a cable from Fairphone marketed for long life, and it broke when it really shouldn’t have. Sent an email about it to Fairphone and they shipped me a new one right away alongside information about how to recycle the old one.
Nice!
Koofr insted of Dropbox. Privacy-friendly and easy to setup.
I made a switch a few months back!
Hetzner is pretty good, as is scaleway and Verda.
Hetzner’s low-end offerings have been unavailable for new registrations for a few months unfortunately. I like the server I already have, but currently direct new people to OVH.
Scaleway interested me when they offered dedicated ARM servers. However, every time I rented them I got complete freezes when running specific programs on like 4 out of 5 servers, each failing a different task, as though they offered damaged CPUs. Only one kept working reliably. That wouldn’t be a big problem if they labeled the service experimental and warned to expect issues, but they marketed them in the same way as any other service, so I felt scammed.
IKEA’s smart home lights, sensors, and buttons seem really good! No issues with them so far after a month of use
Their smart home lights were a bit of a hassle to get going on Home Assistant (their native functionality of changing brightness/colour temperature really does not translate well), but after I found some arcane script they’ve been working fairly well.
It took a moment but I also hadn’t used home assistant before. Once they were connected I didn’t have any issues with changing colour or brightness. I heard the non-colour ones didn’t have the most satisfying colour.
Did you get the wireless on/off switch/remote with it?
I can control the light through the HA app just fine, but the switch’s functions were almost impossible to recreate.
I got a bunch of buttons and scrol wheels. They stay connected and always work. Wouldn’t recommend the wheel scrolling though, scroll isn’t great or well implemented due matter not supporting scroll I believe. It does always “work” though
I’m talking about the Bilresa remote. Did you get the press-and-hold and double-click functions working as they do natively? Or how did you go about configuring them.
Getting smooth dimming was nearly impossible, and I still haven’t figured out how to do colour temperature.Image

The press and hold and double tap work fine for me. I have set the dimming and colour every time an automation interacts with the light. Setting it centrally on the light’s page itself was not consistent. See my pictures for the configuration (hopefully they work)

From what I can tell that only changes it to a fixed temperature, that doesn’t cycle through in steps?
IKEA does have some nice stuff. Though a lot of the furniture is cheap MDF sadly. Not like you could get real wood for their prices though.
Minecraft
I’ll start with IVPN (based in Gibraltar, so I guess technically they are European). Straightforward approach, the thing just works.
I shortly wrote a bit more about it on !privacy@programming.dev: https://old.piefed.zip/post/1959962
SUSE moved SLES to use NetworkManager. It’s just so much easier to do networking for me 😂
Pinephone 4, got it second hand earlier this year. Dutch company IIRC.
Do you mean Fairphone 4?
Pinephone 4 does not exist as far as I’m aware, and Pine64 is not Dutch. Fairphone is great though!
Hah yeah fairphone 4, to be fair I do also have a pinephone though.
Can’t say I haven’t been tempted by Pinephone myself! It seems like people have a harder time recommending them though. :)
Best computer I have ever been able to fit in my pocket. Not so great at being a phone though.
If you want a computer that can sometimes do calls and SMS but not very well, its great. For the price I think its a fairly low spec too.
CMP outdoor clothing. Bought a pair of hiking shoes and a fleece jacket recently for week of hiking and can only recommend them. Their products are well priced and have good durability.
And taking about footwear, I have to mention Leguano barefoot shoes. Pricy but worth it in my opinion. I have no idea how they manage to get the sole so thin but robust enough that I can easily walk over rough gravel.
i set up filen for filemanger on android 2 days ago
my netcup vps has been running smoothly since i upgrade 2 months ago, and before that the old one has been running smoothly for >10years
