As tech titans warned an AI-weary world that their own advanced systems could endanger humanity, the question emerged: What do they have to gain?
The answer may lie in the companies’ efforts to score political goals ahead of the U.S. midterm elections and the money top artificial intelligence labs and their investors stand to make in much-anticipated listings on a jittery stock market.
The CEOs of Anthropic and OpenAI recently declared America’s cutting-edge models are so powerful, they’re dangerous, and need to be regulated and independently tested before being released. In a rare instance of unity, they have sketched alarming scenarios in essays, social media posts and speeches to the United Nations.
Along the way, they are shaping the conversation around how their technology should be controlled. With their rhetoric, the companies appear to be seeking public favor and to set the terms for their own safety protocols in the unregulated market, experts, analysts and former government evaluators told The Associated Press.
Yes yes. The people who should be in charge of regulating and controlling AI are the ones that failed to. Fuck that shit.
They are just trying to get ahead of any regulation and use it to stifle competition. Same old same old.
They’re trying to keep out the open source and little guys, while upselling “safety.”
Also, much thanks to the people who answered so well about this very topic: https://sh.itjust.works/post/67328559
Or they are hemorrhaging cash, their product give more false answers than true.

Ai companies use SPV to hide debt
Circular financing to create fake income.
Local and state bands on new data centers.
AI bonds down graded to near junk status.
Inflation driving borrowing costs up.
Fed ready to raise rates.
Massive failure to show value when used by Large companies.
Huge cut backs on AI funding from corporate uses.
Parts shortages and Tariffs affecting cost of build out.
Distrust in subscription models, as they scape your data and resell it.
And most importantly, it was sold as a solution, but cant do the job.
Data from Fidelity shows that the Silicon Data LLM token expenditure index has dropped 49% on a 50-day basis.
Rental rates for previous-generation AI chips, like Nvidia’s H100 and A100, have cooled sharply after peaking earlier in the year
Sorry investors, we would like to give you the unbelievable return we promised, but we have to slow down for safety

I feel like it’s bullshit galore!!! Hear me out.
I don’t believe for one minute these “A” companies are breaching shit! It’s a ploy/marketing BS to seem better than that are; like they’re powerful and smart… Why haven’t ANY of these other companies come forward to confirm a breach has indeed happened and confirm how the breach happened?
To say “my AI compromised a company” is now being used to try and regulate the way they are used for, which really means fuck all… It’s the auto industry all over again!
Huggingface did that. I’m sure the others have too if you care to look. https://huggingface.co/blog/security-incident-july-2026
It’s partially a PR stunt, sure, but HF and others are in on some of them.
Anthropic has control of the regulatory firm ;)
Stop me before I kill everyone!
Maybe some bullets would work better than regulations.
