This video goes over some frequently asked questions in the comments of the previous video. Namely multitasking, 2D games with floating windows, and other "P…
They really glossed over the mouse issue. Without a pointer, using a mouse is worthless.
From a comment I made in another thread:
But for the mouse, the pointer (the little arrow, hand, cursor, etc. that indicates where your mouse is located onscreen) seems to be bound to only the VR controllers. When aiming a VR controller at the desktop, the pointer follows your laser thing. But if you try moving the mouse, it’s like the onscreen pointer is just invisible. It will activate the tooltips of page elements when you hover over them and stuff like that, and you can certainly click. But without actually seeing the pointer, a mouse is pretty useless. You can make the pointer appear by doing the “shake mouse to increase pointer size” gesture, but when you stop shaking, it disappears again.
An issue for sure. But seemingly an easy fix, once it makes it down the pipe. I’m unconcerned.
I think you’re right. Initial SteamOS 3.0 release as shipped on the first wave of Steam Decks was broken trash by today’s standards. Even the first 3.0.xx updates made a world difference.
ProtonDB should also list Frame compatibiity. There should not be two databases for game compatibility.
Give them a chance, protonDB is community run and relies on community reports.
But the site itself needs to provide a way for users submitting a report to flag that their report is about Steam Frame compatibility (just like they can flag that a report is about Steam Deck). As-is, users looking for info about Steam Frame compatibility for a game need to read every report for regular PCs and hope they come across a report that mentions the Frame.
Yeah they are a bit behind the ball on this one.
I dunno. There’s already a separate Linux VR DB, as Proton doesn’t really do that for games that support flat-screen and VR. https://db.vronlinux.org/. Unfortunately it isn’t kept that up to date, I requested American Truck Sim be added over a year ago now, and it still hasn’t been.
Anyway, as we see more and more enshittification (not that I would expect ProtonDB to enshittify any time soon) I’d rather my services and websites to be more spread out as compared to all on one website. I can type in one URL to check on flat-screen games and a different one to check on Steam Frame compatibility, it’s no big deal.
