      The citizens of DPRK can leave anytime they want, but the UN is the one that forbids them from leaving due to some of the most brutal sanctions that are imposed on the country as part of Amerika’s collective punishment. People from DPRK can travel freely to China and back for example just fine.

      Just because the US is bad does not mean the DPRK is good

      US is the one that tried to genocide the Koreans and bombed them so much that they had to hide in caves, almost the entirety of Pyongyang was destroyed.

    It’s worth noting that the ideology of the DPRK is Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism, or juche socialism. This is an ideology that is connected with Marxism-Leninism, and accepts it as basically correct but overall incomplete, and as such Kim Jong-Il broke the historical connection with Marxism-Leninism and maintained that juche is an original revolutionary idea. So still socialist, still based on dialectical materialism, but unique historically and distinct enough for the Korean people themselves to designate it as their own idea.

    I see it as similar to how the Zapatistas were influenced by a large number of ideologies, but ultimately claim that their ideology is Zapatismo, not Marxism, not anarchism. Juche is far closer to Marxism-Leninism than Zapatismo is, of course, but as both are primarily indigenous movements it is a bit chauvanist to project Marxism/anarchism onto these movements.

    Juche is also far more comprehensible than most people think, I recommend reading through the entire prolewiki page I linked, not just the section on the relation to Marxism-Leninism.

      i had the same thought about how we describe bolivarianism as marxism when it’s a contemporary to marxism.

        I don’t really describe them as Marxist, nor do I think Marxists generally do. I think Marxists support the Bolivarian revolution, but recognize it as its own thing.

          but they do – or atleast the high placed ones like chavez and maduro said it was.

          so it begs the question is it still chauvinist to project marxism onto a non-marxist movement when it’s people (or atleast a significant number of them) believe themselves to be part of a marxist movement?

        I’m with you on Hamas and Iraq, but are you implying that Kim Jong Un is not the son of Kim Jong Il who is the son of Kim Il Sung all of whom were leaders of the DPRK? Or os your point another? Because that seems like a dynasty to me

          There is a major distinction between actual dynastic rulership and the Kims as heads of state in the DPRK in that the Kims were all elected and do not have absolute power despite what western propaganda would have us believe. Dynsastic rulers are given their power purely by virtue of their blood regardless of popular support whereas the Kims each had to earn their positions by demonstrating they could be trusted as leaders. And they are trusted by the party and by the people who rightly associate them with the successful resistance and then deterrence of imperialism, the kind of imperialism that wiped out almost one third of their population still within (just barely) living memory. The Kims’ leadership is not automatic by blood, it is contingent on their ability to be good leaders, but it would make sense that as leaders, they would do their best to train and prepare their children to be good leaders as well, and it makes sense that the Korean people would trust them, given their history. There is a much stronger case to be made that the Bushes and Clintons are dynasties far more than the Kims.

              Having unrestricted access to western “news” and internet hasn’t been working out so great for the US recently, in fact I seem to remember a whole bunch of noise about Russia manipulating our elections &etc. Given how often the US has done that to other countries it seems like cutting off media from hostile nations is actually a really good idea, the US is clearly only mad about it because we want to do the same shit to NK.
