This song will forever be stuck in my head. Sometimes I’ll just start whistling it for no discernible reason and it’ll be stuck in my head for the next month while sending me on another Andrew Bird tilt.
I prefer Charley Patton’s original personally. That being said, I do love Andrew Bird a lot. Although in terms of whistling songs I instantly think of A Nervous Tick Motion Of The Head To The Left and… Sisyphus maybe?
Ah, wonderful! I wish I could’ve heard his voice in person, even through that early recording equipment it sounds powerful.
He’s one of the greats. Funny thing is he was apparently just 5’5", which always shocked people the first time hearing his absolute belting deep voice. Great guitarist too, I think Bukka White picked up the guitar playing style of playing and slapping the guitar at the same time from Charley, as you can hear in this classic.
